Default OOOOKAY!! That was interesting!

I just ran down to Boston Market to pick up lunch...The man behind the counter chuckled when I said "no carrots in my veggie medley and no cornbread or rolls".
He said, "You must be on that Atkins diet".
He told me that he "did" Atking last ear and lost 52 POUNDS in 3 months! I told him that was fantastic! Then he told me that he gained it ALL + back when he quit. I told him that he wasn't supposed to "quit" the diet...it is a way of life.
He begged to differ saying that Dr. Atkins stated in his book that you should not continue this WOE for a long period of time. WHO'S book did HE read????

Probably his own book that loves mashed potatoes!

Should have told him about the new book coming out, "Atkins For Life."

Post We're lucky

BTW, Atkins for Life is on the shelves at Barnes & Noble.

Think how lucky we are to be members of this forum. We understand the WOE concept. Those who try it and return to old habits gain it back.

Actually, on pp 128 - 129 of DANDR, 1999 edition (blue cover), Chapter 10 "Time to Review Your 14-Day Results", Atkins states:
Quote:
The Atkins low-carbohydrate diet has many levels, and is made for many different types of people. The high-fat, deep-ketosis form of it that you've just experienced is not the diet but an extreme variation of it. And the fact is most of the time spent on the Atkins diet is not spent on this level. This first level, the Induction level, is to be used whenever ketosis/lipolysis must be induced, but I do not advise staying on this level for any length of time, unless it is the only level that works.

< snip >

All you gung-ho types may think the ideal level is simply that which takes the pounds off fastest, ie, the diet you've just been on for the first 14 days. But why, in heaven's name, should that be true? Fast weight loss isn't a very important consideration when you're going to be solving your weight problem for the rest of your life. What is an important consideration is being comfortable, contented, and healthy. I want you to feel at ease on the Atkins diet. Physically well, satiated, pleased with your daily menu, confident in your body. The vast majority of you will find that the level of carbohydrate consumption that achieves that best is not the first level.
Many folks skim the Induction chapter, and memorize the "allowed foods" list and 20g carb limit for Induction -- and that's about it. Which only perpetuates the "this is just a temporary diet" notion, and effectively avoids the WOL intent of the whole program.

Isn't that true of any diet, that if you go back to the way you were eating before, you'll gain it all back. If the way I was eating made me fat, then it stands to reason that eating that way again will make me fat again. I mean, duh

You better buy the book now if you want it...cause B&N goofed by putting it out. It has a release date of Mar 4 and can't be sold before that. I know, I work in a bookstore, and I can't even sneak a copy home yet.

Strange... it has said January everywhere I've heard, including Barnes & Noble.com and Atkins on Larry King.

Hope I can get my copy sooner than March.

p.s. amen to LadyBug 555.
