Default Gaining Weight...What am I doing Wrong?

Just finished day 14 of induction. I had lost a total of 8 1/2 pounds at one point, but as of today, I've only lost 7. Why did I put on a pound and a half? I have not cheated on carbs in anyway. Yesterday's diet:

Breakfast: 2 scrambled eggs w/cheese and 2 slices of bacon

Lunch; Chicken salad

Snack: EAS bar (25 protein/3 carbs)

Dinner: Small piece of pork tenderloin, chicken salad

*Throughout the day I ate the entire chicken salad (made of 5 servings chicken, 1 celery stick, 2 slices turkey bacon, and mayo).

Am I eating too much? Not enough? It reallywas a lot of chicken salad. I appreciate any and all input!

Also...I just resumed strength training today, so I dout I put on muscle during induction with only one day of Pilates .

Edited to add: I drink way more than 8 glasses of water a day, and only 6 oz of Dt. Pepsi in additioN

Thanks!

You didn't gain 1.5 lbs...you lost 7 on induction. Now be happy for that and stick to the plan Okay, now that that's over...I have that problem too, I need to learn to stay off the scale and let my body just do its thing. See, if you had only weighed on day 1 and day 14, you would never have known about that little rise, would you now.

Let's go hide our scales for a week..wanna?

Hi Betty!

It's very normal for your weight to fluctuate up and down from one day to the next and from morning to evening. Your weight loss isn't going to be one steady downward line, so don't panic if you see it go up a pound one day. If daily fluctuations distress you, maybe it would be better to only weigh once a week instead of daily or you can record each day's weight and then at the end of the week take an average of that week's weight and chart that; with that method, you should see a fairly steady downward pattern.
7 pounds during induction is doing great! Don't panic if the scale doesn't move again for a week or two as many people find that their body takes a brief break from weight loss after induction before resuming losing again. This is normal and doesn't mean you are doing something wrong. Keep with what you are doing and the numbers on the scale will start decreasing again soon. A better measure of your progress is measurements; you can be losing inches even if the scale isn't showing a loss, so take some measurements weekly and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. You can also use a tight piece of clothing and use that to gauge your progress.

Thank you for your responses! I agree, I lost 7 lb which is great. My concern is that I had planned on not weighing for another week (if I can hold out), and I didn't want to be doing something wrong and end up with a 5 lb weight gain. I did take my measurements today, and will try to measure and weigh only on Mondays. I really am addicted to the scales, but I know it's the inches that matter.

Can I eat as long as I'm truly hungry and not worry about calories? I'm going to stick to 20 or fewer carbs for at least another week.

Thanks again!

Hi again, Betty!

I just took a closer look at your stats and 7 pounds during induction for someone with so little to lose is absolutely fantastic! The average weight loss during induction is about 10% of what you need to lose, so you are WAY ahead of the game so far.
In answer to your question: if you are truly hungry, then eat! There is no reason for you to be hungry on low carb.
Dr. Atkins even suggests that for someone with less than 20 pounds to lose that they actually start with the ongoing weight loss phase at 25-30 grams of carb per day instead of induction, so you might want to consider that since you are losing so quickly. You don't want to get to your goal so quickly that you haven't had a chance to increase your carbs along the way and know where you need to be to maintain.

Don't worry Betty...

The pattern for most of us is one up, two down, half up, one down, etc...like an EKG chart!

Over the longrun, the pattern will slope downward, so don't even give it another thought. Anyhow, can't be fat, just water or hormones or something...

Will be gone in next week's "Whooshe" !!
