ive been on the atkins diet for almost 2 wks now. ive lost almost 10 pounds so far (whoo) & i was wondering how & when i can start adding fruit back into my diet? i love fruit & have missed it soo much the past 2 wks, but i still have 50 pounds to lose. if i start eating fruit, even in moderation, will i still continue to lose weight?

Which edition are you following? If it's the 2002 edition, there is a specific order to add back foods, and fruit, berries first, doesn't come up for a couple more weeks, and other fruits don't come up until several weeks after that. If it's the 1992 edition, you can add back whatever you miss most first. Both require the serving to be 5g carbs. And both warn that fruit is notorious for causing cravings and/or stopping progress.

the book says to slowly add in other carbs, starting mainly with vegetables ofcourse, & depending on how your body reacts, add in fruit also. BUT i am not so good at just adding these things back in, & knowing what the right amount is to add back in. im afraid if i start eating fruit again, i will gain back the few pounds ive lost, & i def dont wanna go backwards. if anyone has been on the diet & is now in the Ongoing Weight Loss phase, please let me know if u eat fruits & how much. thanks

The book says to add them back as a 5g carbs worth serving once a day.

I don't eat fruit, other than some berries in the summer. If I do eat it, it's a small amount, no more than 5g carbs worth.

Wow, 5g is very tiny. It's going to be hard to add fruit back at that rate.

I have been on induction for a month. I have not added any fruit back in because I am afraid it would cause cravings. I love it too... but I also love the weight coming off. To tell you the truth though I don't know what it would do. I have still been doing induction pretty strict still but on some days I will eat like 5 almonds. I do eating a lot of leafy greens... but they still add to under 20g of carbs. Thats about it. I want to stay in ketosis.

You could always try and see what happens.

I added strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries back in my second week. I still eat them regularly, as well as some melon.

here's the deal. You can only have 5 carbs of them. Not too much then, eh? And eat them with a fat.

I cut up one on a jello cup and top with heavy cream.

They never slow me down, but I'm very very careful.

I'll be the one to say you should not add fruits in yet. They trigger hunger plus you don't seem to be losing weight rapidly so you could possibly halt weight loss altogether. Add more veggies if you want but truthfully you should probably continue another 2 weeks of induction at 20 carbs. Sorry I know that's not what you wanted to hear.

With the exception of some grapefruit or berries I think the best answer is never.

I bought a half pound of seedless grapes last week and they didn't last a whole day, its a good year for grapes. Now I keep sweet fruits and cashews off my shopping list.

grapefruit is pretty high in carbs, berries are better, and melon is low, like pen said.

Same here...I'll also add a few blueberries to my smoothie...I'll never go over 1/4 of a cup of berries per day...if that.

I often drink the fruity flavors of Celestial Seasonings herbal teas like Wild Berry Zinger, True Blueberry, Country Peach Passion, etc. It helps me with fruit cravings.

You might take vitamin C supplements too.

Yep, the tea thing is what I have done. I can't find Celestial Seasonings here, but I found a lot of good fruit teas by Twinnings. The only problem is you really do have to watch the carb content. Some can be a couple while others are less than one.
