Jason,
Dr. Atkins says they're ok at all stages of the plan, but most of what I hear on this forum, and my own personal experience tells me that they are a big NO-NO!!
Especially on induction, you want your body to get rid of those "candy bar" kind of tastes and cravings and to let it get fully detoxed of sweet things. The Atkins bars are high in calories too.
But the "net" carb count of 2 gms. is because he does not consider the remainder of carbs as effecting the insulin response because they are from sugar alcohols. This is a common practice on those low-carb labels, but they are still considered "hidden carbs" and do effect some people in a bad way.
I have a few on hand in the fridge because when I go to a movie or something, I will chop one up and take a baggie with me...it feels like a candy bar, you know? But as part of my daily intake for food, no way. They don't really even satisfy, and I would never use one as a meal replacement.
My advice is to pass them up for a while...later when you're close to goal, see what they do for you. If they're not a problem for your system, fine!
