Unhappy lightheaded?

for the last day, I will stand up and feel light headed and have wierd vision for a few seconds. Hopefully this will go away and not get worse or affect my workout schedule. Did anyone else become lightheaded when starting out on atkins?

Hiya Puffkitty,

Feeling lightheaded could be cause by dehydration (we naturally lose extra water during Induction) or by potassium deficiency. Are you feeling kinda weak or just lightheaded? Potassium deficiency (also caused by the Induction water loss) is more likely to give you a weak feeling.

Are you taking any supplements? The Drs Eades, who wrote Protein Power, suggest taking 400mg potassium at first, gradually decreasing to 100mg daily. You can buy potassium tablets over the counter, or you can use Nu Salt or No Salt (found in the supermarket near the regular salt).

If you decide to add some potassium, do make sure you drink plenty of water with it. Potassium tablets need to be taken with food, or they can upset your tum.

One little warning: anyone taking diuretics or drugs to lower blood pressure should check with their pharmacist or doctor before taking potassium supplements.

Puff, it might just be a bit of detox causing this. Or, possibly even more likely, your blood pressure has dropped a bit. Again, the answer is to drink lots and lots of water.

Hope you're feeling normal again soon!

Rosebud
