Default Getting back in the saddle again...

Hi,

I'm getting back on track with Atkins—after a disasterous holiday season—and I could use some help. I entered all my food for the day in FitDay.com and came up with these numbers:

Cal = 2889
Fat = 224
Carb = 23
Prot = 185

What I actually had was:

Breakfast
------------
3 Egg omelette with mushrooms and cheese
1/4 cup of greens
2 slices of tomato
Cup of coffee with splenda and cream

Lunch
------
1 can of boneless/skinless salmon

Dinner
-------
12 extra large shrimps
6 oz of boneless skinless salmon
1 cup of veg (mushrooms bamboo shoots brocolli)
6 tablespoons of olive oil
2 tablespoons of Patak's Madras curry sauce
All the above were stirfried

2 oz brie cheese

1 3 carb pleasantville cookie

Cup of decaf espresso (extra long shot) w/1/2 cup half and half cream

Does this sound reasonable for induction? Do you have any recommendations?

Thanks,

Rob Yale

Hi Rob,

I can't see anything "illegal" about your food choices, and your calories at first seemed a bit high, but I think does fall within the 10-12 X your body weight guideline. Fish (salmon) is a good choice for induction because it's oily and nutritious and has really good effect on the digestive system!! It's good for you.

Your carbs would be right on the money without that cookie ! If possible, try to snack on things like salami and cheese, or broccoli and sour cream dip, etc. The omelet is a great thing for breakfast, in my house it gets whatever last night's veggie was. Now I don't even bother with the cheese.

I've learned to really cut down on my full, full plate. My portions were huge because I thought "legal" mean "unlimited". Just keep in mind that you should eat until you're not hungry anymore...and don't eat until you are (within reason )

Also, the latte breves were killing me !! I LOVE my espresso, but all that half and half is a no-no. If you can handle it, make a giant cup of regular coffee and keep the cream to a minimum. It adds up!

Are you drinking four tons of water a day???

Sounds like you're off to a good start...check back and let us know how it's going.

Thanks!

Yes, I'm drinking 1.5 L of water a day—one of those big Evian bottles that I keep refilling with filtered water.

I'll have to find an alternative recipe for my morning coffee fix though. Is Table Cream (18%) better than Half and Half? Perhaps I can reduce my cream to an ounce or less.

With respect to cheese, how much do you eat, and what kind of cheese is best? I assumed that Brie would be best because it seems to have the highest butterfat, but I noticed that gouda seems low in carbs.

Thanks,

Rob Yale

Rob that really looks okay... but where your calories go through the roof is the 6 TBS of olive oil. That is ALOT! If you halved that - you would really cut your calories down and I bet you wouldn't miss that extra oil all that much.

Hi Rob!

Cheese is limited to no more than 3-4 ounces a day on induction and cream is limited to no more than 2 fluid ounces.
Overall your menu looks pretty good, but watch the cheese and cream.

I exchanged half/half for whipping cream in my coffee. I actually think it tastes better!

Rob, yes whipping cream is allowed, in fact it is lower in carbs than half and half. Generally, the thicker the dairy the lower the carbs...

I use the half and half because I round it out a bit and both seem to come up to 1 gm, but with the heavier cream I tend to use less.

I hardly use cheese ON or IN anything because for a while there I was melting it on my eggs, over my veggies, etc. I realized that when I want to TASTE the cheese, I should save my portions up so I can just cut a piece off and have it with some salami .

So now I use butter in my veggies instead of the oil or cheese. It does help to keep the foods and portions (and calories) under control. Makes things happen a bit quicker for me.

You look like you're on a roll.....
