Question BDD and Prozac: counterproductive???

I've just been diagnosed with BDD (body dysmorphic dysfunction)and feel fairly embarassed about it. . .for years I convinced myself it was my own problem and nothing could be labeled and make it 'better'. Nonetheless, my dr. recommends I start on Prozac, but if (as I read) weight gain is one of the side effects, how will that make anything better? I understand the healthier headspace notion, but I feel as though it's a little counterproductive.

Has anyone had any experience with BDD?

Thanks for your support - this forum is a wonderful way to realise you're just not alone..

Arrow alternative therapy

If you are looking for alternatives to perscription anti-depressants, you could try, St. John's Wort, 5htp or SAM-E, all of these alternative therapies work as well with out the side effects of perscription ad's. check out these wbsites

Thank DuPont . . .

I wasn't really looking for alternative therapies; I've tried SJW and it did nothing for me, and from the research I've done, chemical imbalance is better treated by antidepressant meds. My question was more if anyone had a similar conundrum...

i appreciate your time!

Hi Jodifer

If you don't mind me asking..what is BDD? I myself am bi-polar (misdiagnosed for years and years) and BPD.

Thanks!
