Ahem!

Let's face it: TV talk shows are a rotten place for a serious discussion of anything. But this is what Americans take for serious discussion these days. It's a pity.

Sheldon

I completely agree with your first sentence, but I take a little offence with the second one. I fear you are confusing the "Media face" of America with its inhabitants. While the daily output of American news and entertainment complex is often full of errors, misrepresentations and lies, Americans in private are more thoughtful and more capable of rational thought. Commercial media outlets are interested only in profit and any motivation to illuminate the truth is secondary. Non-commercial media like public radio and television are far more balanced in their news offerings.

I only ask that you do not confuse “Americans” with American media corporations, which in some cases are not even owned by Americans.

I have to agree with the post prior to this one. I watched the entire show and was extremely disappointed with its content. It stated nothing of the health benefits of this wol and the poor story of the girl dying was a side-track. They did not discuss her diet as much as they discussed her symptoms. It should have been a show unto itself.

I email Phil. Can't wait to see if he responds.

I'm an American too. I didn't mean to offend. As to your claim about NPR and PBS: most people don't listen to them (too boring for them), and I disagree that they are more balanced than commercial radio and tv. They have their own built-in bias--toward their government sponsors, for example.

I saw the whole show and I'm really disappointed Here was Dr. Ornish, with his malnourished features having the audacity to state he have read hundreds or studies showing the dangers of low-carb diets, and no one asked him for a single study or refernce to the such! ..........

True, the host was fair and balanced, but no one of the other side's guests was able to call Ornish's bluff to cite any of these so called studies he claims to have found. I'm not sure if the Atkins rep. was qualified, all he was able to say was "Duke" and a few other univesitiy names, but with no content or elaboration! Atkins could have done a lot better, coming himself or by sending someone who is aware of some of the research on low-carb, and the low-fat myth.

I could name a few of our none MD members who could have wiped the floor with Ornish, and shown him as the true clown he is!

Sorry, but the strength of the LC argument was not represented. Yes, a few LC followers showed their remarkable success, but so did the vegans! All that was left, was Ornish's unchallanged claims of the dangers of low-carb diets and no one was able to stand up to his bogus claim.

I saw some of it and i'm sorry but my personal dislike of Phil Donahue really clouded my judgement and I had to turn it off.

yeah, but you gotta admit, he LOOKED a lot better than pasty faced Ornish.

I also have never cared for Donahue's overblown style, and I agree that his trotting out the poor mother of the girl who died was beyond shameless.

Hello everyone~

Interesting comments! Transcript of the show

I've have written the handsome Mr. Phil Donahue & asked for a follow-up show.
OK, so I begged? So what?

I hope the LC Community gets time someday to actually
EXPLAIN THE FACTS about low carbing without interruptions & given a little more time to do it in.

I'm sure, along w/others, that day will come, & that people who are further along in their weight loss & much more knowledgeable than others will be around to do it!

Donahue makes 66 look good!
