Question Body Fat shift?

okay. .I was doing the.. "try on clothes to see how they fit" today.
I put on a size 14 shantung silk blouse today that I used to find very tight on top. Well today that buttoned like a dream..but I hit the button on my hips.. that I used to could do with no problem..and that was tighter!
Has anyone noticed a shift of body weight? I know I had been concerned about my hormonal situation and becoming more apple in the last few months.
Here is a thought..have I healed enough that my hormonal system is back to normal.. so I am stroring as a spoon again?
I know I have to start doing official measures and weights soon.
I think three months into this blind..with nothing but my health as the goal was good..but beginning to not be enough.
I just don't want to be depressed that there has been no change..
:-)
I have had ENOUGH depression... doing away with that emotion.
any thoughts on this ramble?

Poofie, the article that Karen linked to will relieve many of your concerns - fat really does move about. I can personally attest to the fact that some weeks I've lost 1/2 an inch on one calf only to find it the next week on the other calf. The three types of fat on our bodies are also lost (and gained) in a particular order - intra muscular fat (fat deposited in the muscles) is gained and lost first, viseral fat (around the organs) and subcutaneous fat (just under the layer of skin) are lost after the intramuscular fat stores have been used up. This is why we often notice certain areas of our bodies get lumpy or resemble the consistency of Jell-O just before we lose a chunk of fat. Drawing on the intramuscular fat will leave the muscle looking giggly, drawing on the abdominal fat will leave your stomach looking that way too.

Poofie,
Does the blouse hang longer than it did before b/c of the weight you've lost? Perhaps the hip buttons really used to be around your waist but now they're lower which would explain why you can't button them now.

Exclamation Well. ..I wish I was sure :-)

About whether it was lower on my hips or not..but its a great question.
As to the other information....thanks a bunch.
After I posted my question Nat.. I realized where I was and where I should have done it.. I figured you guys would catch my blond moment.
:-) Its still just interesting to watch.
I honestly don't know what it looked like or how I lost weight a few years back with high carb low fat....I think I was too tired to notice..ect for one thing. I would always get a bruise in the area that measurements would go down on the next week...strange!

Hey I don't mind "gettin' jigg(l)y with it" just so long as it all eventually smoothes out

Exclamation Fat Distribution

Poofie

I was really interested to read Karen's link to Elhnig's post on fat movement. One thing I discovered earlier this year was that after my hormones went awry that I put on 2 inches around my abdomen, whilst measurements above this decreased. The menopause has something to answer for.

I definitely agree with you Anne. I just turned 46 and I have noticed over the last five years that I seem to gain weight around my abdomen area. I just hate this - not a pleasant byproduct of aging. When I was younger it seemed to go to my rear end and legs more. It is definitely related to hormone shifts. This is a great thread - I appreciate the info on fat distribution. Cindi

Default well.. what I notice for me is..

I have always had the tendency to be a spoon. Then for personal reasons..as well as non exercise and dietary I have been through a couple of years of great stress.... and the last few months..its been coming back on all abdominal.. now I am back to the shifting down into my legs.
Tanya can tell you while I know this is great news hormonally for me.. LOL.its also frustrating.. hehe..
I will just get out more of the firm tapes that focus on the lower body..keep up the upper body.and go from there and see how this all plays out.
Poofie!
( I am sure glad I am not the only person to notice this though!)

Thumbs up A spoon

Might be better known to you as a "pear"..
I collect a lot more body fat below my waist..around the hips thighs and legs..than my upper body

I'm glad you enjoyed my post. I just got weighed at the doctor's for my postpartum checkup. My scale and the doctor's office scale say drastically different things. On that morning, my scale says 184. That afternoon with clothes on, lunch in me, water in me the office scale said 202. The nurse says she didn't know where I kept it because I certainly didn't look like it. I think some of it must be the inches lost, pounds kept syndrome and some of it must be fat stored in and around internal organs.

I guess I'd better post more so you all will know how to spell my name . Actually, my husband says he doesn't know how to spell it unless he thinks about it.

Thumbs up Hey Beth!

When did you have your baby?
I guess I could go look up your journal and figure that out. huh?
I am dealing with the fact that I have put on poundage since I started this. I know that Dr S says this is normal.. and I have done thing.. not meaning to hurt my system..but ended up doing so..
So I have to heal.
But I am glad that the pear thing is happening a bit more.
