Angry How will I survive another Sunday w/o SUSHI

Here is my confession on Sushi, I am addicted to it.

My boyfriend turned me on to sushi about 6 months ago. There is a sushi bar here that has sushi at 50% prices on Sunday's only . We were making it habit to go there at least twice a month! I don't like the raw fish sushi, but love the veggie ones or the ones with shrimp and the cooked stuff. It is so tempting to go out and do it on Sunday where it was such a habit. I typically dont like rice, but the rice in sushi is wonderful!

We even have the supplies here to make sushi. Everytime I open the cabinet and see all the sushi stuff I wimper like a dog! How am I going to get by this?! Anyone else feel this way? And if so what to do ? I thought about just wrapping the veggies, shrimp or whatever in the nori sheets with out the rice, but it just isnt the same!

I'm no sushi fan, but I think we all have our foods we really miss, especially if we can get them at a bargain price.

Er... you could try grated cauliflower instead of the rice... nah, probably wouldn't be the same.

You thought about it, but did you try it yet? The flavours are great and you won't miss the rice at all.

I sometimes have diced tuna, avocado and cucumber wrapped in nori and dipped in soy-wasabi so you get all the satisfying flavours and textures without the rice.

De-constructed sushi. Try it!

Thanks you two,

I suppose I could try it with out the rice, but I think I'll still miss the rice. You have no idea how much rice I put on those nori sheets!

My boyfriend (he's chinese) laughs his butt off at me when I make sushi, cause I go through rice like crazy. And I just love sushi rice, just by itself, call me crazy but I love my vinegar!

But then again, that is probably another reason I've gained so much weight since I moved in with him, all that rice almost every night in some form.

Oh Kristine, good thought on the cauliflower, but it wont stick to the nori sheets like ya would need it to hehe I can see how it would work for a substitute in fried rice. Oh well I guess I'm going to be doomed on this one.

Thanks again!

I ended up at a sushi/japaneese restaurant for lunch the other day with my co-workers. I ended up ordering a chicken and veggie dish and just a small order of suchi (one roll and one plate of 2 pieces of fish). This way, I still got a taste, but didn't go overboard. I know what you mean though. I miss it also.

I think what I will end up doing when I go this particular restaraunt, is just order 1 or 2 rolls of sushi and then have hibachi (just get no rice or noodle, only get the steak and shrimp with veggies.

Thanks everyone!
