Question losing too fast?

I started eating the SP way on Thursday, Oct. 03, 2002 weighing 175 pounds. Today, 2 days later, I weigh 169.5! Is this normal? Don't get me wrong, I love it, and I know I won't keep up this pace, but isn't this a lot of weight in 2 days?

Angel. It is typical for many to lose a "bunch" of weight during the first two weeks of any diet. It's called water weight--it's actually stored glycogen. Many people also do not lose the water weight.

Be happy that you are dropping this weight, but don't expect the results to continue.

During my first two weeks, I dropped 11 pounds. I count most of this toward water weight loss. Since then, I have dropped an additional 21 pounds on the scale, but I have gained so much lean muscle mass, that I figure my actual fat reduction is somewhere around 30 pounds. I base this largely on my smaller girth.

The best thing you can do is watch your measurements. Don't focus on the amount on your scale as it will go up and down a lot and has very little to do with you actual progress except over the long run. And most importantly focus on how you feel.

If you can handle seeing it go up and down as much as 10 pounds day to day, then go ahead and weigh yourself. But many people find this too disconcerting and so only weigh once a week or even just once a month.

BTW: Welcome to TSP! It's the best plan out there, IMHO. I think you'll love it.

thank you for the advice. I'll measure myself this morning and go from that.

I am learning a lot on these boards! Thank you for the welcome!

Post LC way of eating

Dec.Angel, if you check out old posts here, you will find out that large losses at first are not uncommon. I lost 14# the first week, and decided to stay off the scale for awhile, and rather go by my measurements... and I lost 15" on them in the first 10 days!
Getting on the scale too much is not the best idea, because as Deb said, your weight can fluctuate so much in a day's time due to food eaten, food eliminated, water consumption, water eliminated, salt... TOM for women, and much more.

I agree. I'm going to go by measurements and the fit of my clothes.

I grew up in Kansas! Around the Wichita area, just a little outside of there. I sure miss it!!

Default Lived in Wichita & around it

We have lived in that area when I was younger,... Towanda Circle High is where I went my freshman year, also lived some in Cassoday, and my mom lived in El Dorado for awhile. I lived in Wichita when I was 15, at Booth Memorial... you know that place?
I use to work at the Jaycee Cerebral Palsy ranch, was my first job, many a moon ago.

I don't know Booth. I lived about 2 blocks from SE High School for years.
I also lived in Winfield, so I know exactly where El Dorado and Towanda and Cassoday are! Small world!!!

Wink It's a Small World After all~

My stepdad use to run a vending route along the turnpike, when we lived in Cassoday, and it took us all the way from Mattfield Green, and Winfield, to down to Hesston... it was a lot of fun helping out on it. Booth Memorial was a Salvation Army home for unwed mothers and teenage runaways. It is where my family shipped me off to when I was pregnant with my first son Talk about feeling abandonned... it was a horrid thing to go through.
