Third photo of son at 154 lbs.
This is the final photo, I think I got them reversed when I was posting them. This is Michael in his old army pants that used to fit him December of 2001. He's now 154 lbs.

Cheers for Michael!!!!

It's fantastic that he's been able to get a handle on his weight and his health while he's still young. Most of us know that the older you get, the harder it is to change habits - hopefully he's now set with a healthy eating plan to take into adulthood.
Best of luck to him in the future!

Way to GO!!!
That is great to hear of your son's loss. It probably wasn't always easy on him, sometimes kids can be cruel, and peer pressure can be very intimidating... He deserves a hearty round of cheers for staying on course~
Another loser on the LC path~ altho loser in this context is something very excellent~ Michael~

Mixed messages at school
It's a good thing my 14 year old son is so level headed and believes in the "proof" of his low carb way of eating. Just last week, he came home to tell me that in health class, after studying Canada's Food Guide, he was asked to stand and make a presentation on "healthy" eating! (read: spew back exactly what you've been taught) . Now, his teachers know exactly what eating program he was and is on and that really ticks me off! He had to think about it for a moment and decided to stand and openly say that he has to firmly disagree on the pyramid style eating program touted by Canada and the US. He says he choose instead to tell them about his understanding of low carbing and how we would all be better off if we eliminated all of the sugar, and starchy foods and vegetables and overly processed quick foods. He spoke of how he had been on a weight loss program with the aid of a nutritionist for teenagers at a local hospital for one year and ... put weight on. His question to me and his father is how does he answer the questions on the pyramid style eating guidelines? We recommended to him he give 'em what they want - answer them as they taught them, just don't believe it!
Needless to say, it was somewhat confusing for him. He has since couched his answers in class to a simple, "I don't eat sugar, starches, potatoes, bread, etc. it's a healthy way of eating". He's backed away from any suggestion of Atkins or low carbing. They tend to freak, he says! Now at 151 lbs. and loving it... (and yes, we have added carbs to his daily meals, oatmeal, fruit, more vegies).
Oh boy, what DO we teach our kids??!

Congrats!
What dramatic photos of your son! He's educated himself and the results are clear. He also sounds like he's got a great head on his shoulders.
Best wishes !

With any nutrition class,(in college now so this applys even more to HS) it has to be taken with a grain of salt. There is still much to be learned though just a general understanding of Kcal and how they work in our body. Digestive track, slow fast twitch muscle fiber ect...
I am not a true low carber i follow a lower carb regment then that of US guidlines. But carbs are needed when seriously weight lifting.
My point here though is he is probaly intersted in the whole nutriton/food feild and just learn what is feed to him, process it. Then try to challenge it. Instead of giving a speach of a diet that is made up of 55-65% carbs he could give a presentation on a lower carb diet like a 40-40-20 split. And the reasons behind it
