Question Need help with cheese

Hi,

Which cheese is the best to use? Slices, cheddar, marble or mozza? and are string cheeses ok to eat? How much is one ounce? I don't have a scale to weigh foods and is that really necessary?

I hope to hear from someone soon!

Thanks in advance.

Hi there HB & welcome. If you have just started, you are limited to 3 - 4 ounces of full fat cheeses like cheddar, Gouda, Swiss, mozzarella, blue cheeses or cream cheese.

Stay away from low fat or diet cheeses and do not use the slices of 'processed cheese' like Velveeta. (If you would melt it on a cheeseburger, don't have it. Cut up some real Cheddar instead.) Also, do not use cheese spreads like Cheez Whiz.

How much is an ounce of cheese? If you buy a block of 8 ounces of cheddar, then cut it into four pieces and then cut one of those in half. That's an ounce. Weigh it in your hand. Most of the other cheeses will be the same sort of size. I just looked in my frig and it seems to be a square of 1 inch by 1 inch and about 1/2 an inch thick.

Hope this helps.

By the way, don't be surprised if this thread is moved either to General Low Carb or the Atkins Diet forum. The subject is more for those sections than General Health. It's not a scold, just housekeeping by the Moderators so we can find threads by what they talk about. You'll get the hang of the board soon.

Thanks for your help tofi,

Soryr if my question was in the wrong place, not sure what I'm doing yet. Hope I get the hang of this forum since I have never participated in one before.

I found my food scale that I thought I had thrown out long ago so I'll use that to weigh anything I need to.

Default cheese is a lifesaver

i dont eat cheese regularly but if i am super hungry and dinner is cooking but not ready i will have a string cheese snack... just make sure that it is real cheese not processed. they are real good at hiding that on the label.. good luck
