Default Couple of newbie questions....

I havent lifted seriously for almost 8 years and i am thinking of getting back into it.

I have been doing Atkins on and off since January of 2000. I lost over 50 pounds in 6 months, kept it off for 6 months, then went off the diet and gained it back over the next year.

I was thinking of trying the Body for Life workout plan with a LC diet. But then i started reading about the CKD plan. For most of the summer i have been inadvertantly following the CKD diet, i follow atkins induction faithfully during the week, then fall off the wagon on the weekends and end up back at square one come Monday morning.

My biggest question is - can all the workouts be done in the morning? My wife works in the evenings so i dont really wanna drag 3 kids to the gym. I am a morning person so getting up early enough to workout before work wont be a problem.

Also what kinds of foods do most of you eat on the weekends?

thanks for any info.

-That's perfectly fine.

-Check out this thread: http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthre...&threadid=51467

-Note: That thread entails foods, that ... well, they're 'O.K.' to have during a carb load... but not exactly IDEAL. I believe I have stumbled across the 'perfect carb load' (if you want to be really meticulous about your carb-load) and it looks something like this-

Meals 1-4: liquid simple sugars (Ultra Fuel) with added soluble
protein (Whey protein, like 'Designer' or something).

Meals 5-8: liquid simple sugars and solid high GI carbs (i.e. corn flakes)
More ultra fuel with Designer protein. Some type of grain cereal cereal. All are high in sugars so I'm not sure if corn flakes would be exceedingly better than Lucky Charms as long as the amounts were equal.

Meals 9-12: starches with liquid simple sugars
Ultra fuel/designer for liquids
baked potatos, rice, whole wheat bread for starches, you could probably get away with higher GI foods like rice cakes and grain type bars this early in the carb up since insulin sensitivity is still high.

Second 24 hours:
Meals 1-4: more solid carbs and proteins
rice or potatoes and chicken or tuna would be good starch choice.

Meals 5-8: relatively normal food (rice, potatoes, pasta)
Still sticking with rice/potatoes etc.

Meals 9-12: high GI liquid carbs
Revert back to Ultra fuel with protein powder

-Note: I have this saved and I'm not too sure who wrote it (I believe it was Lyle McDonald)- I'm not taking credit for it; rather, just sharing it with everyone.

Default Dextrose query

A little off topic, but I figure if anyone can answer this its the gang over here

The plan I've been following has me taking in 30g of carbs post workout on lifting days for a controled spike - I do a full body circuit 2x a week and an upper body circuit once a week. I've been using a banana to get the carbs in. My question after reading through a lot of the CKD material is this: Would I be better off getting the carbs from dextrose instead of fructose? Or: Do I go out and buy a few rolls of sweet tars and some smarties tomorrow?

Thanks,
Nat

I would take the spike from the Smarties over the banana.

Banana is a 77 on the GI list(vs. white bread) whereas Smarties would be close to 100 (Skittles are on the list at 98).

Default I like ...

Rick Mendosa has a site that is very extensive.

Seach for Glycemic Index on google.com, and his site should be near the top.

I think it is www.mendosa.com/gilists, but I could be wrong.

Ugh, Testosterone.net sucks. TC sucks. Biotest sucks.

Default um

I don't like Biotest, or most of Testosterone.net either. And TC is a goof. The whole feel of many of the articles is very juvenile over there, but they do have a few good departments.

Mendosa does know his stuff, I have to give him that.
