Default Conversion chart?

Hello,

I was just wondering if anyone knew if there is a conversion chart anywhere to give weights for the cup measures given in most of the recipes. Being from the UK I'm usally working in weight measures so am a lilltle unsure how big the average cup should be?.

I didn't want to use just any size incase it puts the whole recipe out.

Thanks a million,

Bungle

Hi there, I've got a really old copy of Marguerite Patten's cook book with a conversion chart in it, so here goes...

solids:

1lb butter or other fat = 2 cups
1 lb flour = 4 cups
1lb granulated sugar (as if!) = 2 cups
14oz rice = 2 cups
1lb dried fruit = 3 cups
1lb chopped or minced meat (firmly packed) = 2 cups
1lb lentils or split peas = 2 cups

liquids:

1.5 pints = 3.75 cups
1 pint = 2.5 cups
0.5 pints = 1.25 cups
.25 pints = 2/3 cups

I hope this is of use to you - at least its a starting point!

Good luck and love

from hazel

Hazel,

Thanks a million, thats just what I needed

I can have a go at a multitude of recipes now.

I've got the Atkins diet revolution book and the recipe book that goes with it, but there seem to be sooooooooooooo many more recipes on this site.

Good luck with the Low Carbing

I've been on it for four days now and after feeling a bit tied, I now feel fine, and that I'm not really on a weight lose diet.

Regards

Bungle

Bungle,

It's a pleasure to be able to help. I'm on day 3 today and am shattered! But I think its got more to do with my 6 year old having tonsilitus (probably spelt wrong) and keeping me up all night!

I've got a great receipe from a combination diet that I tried before -

slice 1 tin of corned beef and mix with 1 finely chopped onion. Place in a shallow oven proof dish and and 2 beaten eggs mixed with 5oz of cottage cheese. Bake for 35/40 mins at 180oc or 350 of until set.

This fits in well with the induction programme with a salad and is nice hot or cold. Good luck with the healthy eating!
