Default Calories per Day

A theoretical question: If I reach my goal weight of 140 does that mean my calories/day will need to be 1400-1680 in order to maintain that weight? (10-12x body weight?)

I really like to eat too much food every day. I need to get a grip or a hobby or something.

Still going strong and happy with our LC way of life! Still lurking around here... just haven't had any questions in a while (believe it or not! )

Thanks

Atkins recommends you add 5 carbs per day for a week at a time and watch your body - when you get to the point where you no longer loose, but not gain either, you have found your ideal carb intake.

That's what you should stick with for your maintenance WOL. Calorie count is pretty much unimportant.

Smile Hey Soella!

I'm not convinced that calories are totally unimportant. When you get to goal you'll probably still have to watch your food intake and weight for a while (like forever?) because IMHO a lot depends on your basal metabolic rate, how much you're exercising, general activity level, etc. I don't think anyone would maintain while eating 4000 calories a day, but you'll probably be able to eat in the 2000-2200 calorie range... you'll just have to see once you get there!! It is good for you to start thinking about these things ahead of time, because so much of our success depends on our mental attitude (willingness to work at it) and thorough familiarity with our bodies.
