Default Atkins Bars and Shakes

I have been LCing for almost a month now, but it has only been the last week or so that I have started noticing inches lost and truly kicked the cravings!

Here is the secret..... DON'T EAT THE BARS AND SHAKES.

I know you read it everywhere on this forum, but I just wanted the newbies to read this from another newbie. I kept hearing everybody say it, but I thought "oh, but they're only 3 carbs". Even if you think they fit into your <20 carb count.... they really might be hurting the process.

Feels so good to be rid of the junk. Thanks to all who told me to stop, and for your patience when I didn't really listen.

They're not only 3 carbs. They have hidden carbs which makes it out to like 90 er somethin

Question I don't understand?

If they are recommended by Dr. Atkins and say on the package only 2 carb per bar, where are there hidden carbs? Why would Atkins sell a product that was counterproductive to all Dr. Atkins recommendations?

I eat 1/2 of a Carb Solution bar before I swim that has written on the package "For Low Carb Diets Such As: Dr. Atkins, Sugar Busters, The Greenwich Diet, Suzanne Somers Get Skinny"

Are they misleading us? How does eating them hurt the process?

Where in Dr Atkin's book does he recommend these things?

In his book he actually says "stay away from processed foods". I can't think of anything more processed than those low carb bars.

Why does he sell and promote these? Money. Guy has to make a living somehow doesn't he? *shrugs* Just another marketing scheme.

The FDA is forcing companies to start changing their misleading labels. The low carb bars actually contain around 15 to 24 carbs per bar depending on the flavor.....NOT 90.

All of us are different...and the "taste" of something sweet regardless if it is real or false triggers our bodies to release insulin. Insulin in the blood streams prevents us from burning fat, thus causing a stall. If they don't bother you great, however the rest of us stay clear of them.

Default Ok!

Thanks for the response. I've never read the Atkins book. I'm new at this and I guess a little too trusting. I know he makes money off those things but to sell something knowingly misleading those who are following his plan is lousey.

I'll stop eating them.....no big loss.

Default Lowcarb bars

I just started induction this last week and have been eating at least one lowcarb bar a day. I feel sooo much better with this WOE but, at times I feel as though I will lose my sanity (especially around 4 0'clock) if I don't have something sweet!!! I know, given all of the wonderful advice from you all on this website, that I have to kick the habit, but i need help! Agonycat mentioned a homemade concoction for chocolate----I'd love to have the recipe for that or anything else that I could use in case of a chocolate emergency. Except for those darn carb bars, I haven't strayed from Atkins plan at all this week. A) That's a miracle B)I'm determined to take control of my body and life this time around!!!

KT: I felt EXACTLY the same way... in fact about 1 month ago I probably posted the EXACT same question. I didn't want to try going "cold turkey" from the sweets--as everyone suggested--I felt that those bars were the only thing keeping me on the plan. But when I finally did I found that they were right... after about 1 or 2 days of cravings, I actually didn't even want sweet things anymore. And it wasn't until I dropped them from my diet that I got into ketosis.

Everyone's body is different, so they might be okay for you. But my experience says no.

Especially during induction I would stay clear of the fake, sweet things. You can add a few a week back in after that. Good luck and Welcome!

I bought the Atkins bars and froze them for 'special' treats.

I used the Atkins vanilla shake every morning to make my smoothie (adding sugar free syrups flavors, vitmains, oil, ice, etc. That's my breakfast. The vanilla is just one carb. Haven't notice a stall with it.

That's my 2 cents.

Funny how they say Call Especially if you are interested in buying the low-carb food products *laughing*
But I would say that they are promoting the products & I would even go as far as to say they are recommending the bars because they have a low carb count...
you know I found this in the The Rules of the Induction Diet.

Thank you

Candice
