Unhappy slow weight loss...

I know it's generally a bad idea to compare yourself to anyone else when it comes to weight loss ( ) but I have to admit, that I am a little disappointed in the rate at which my weight is coming off. I went to the Atkins web site and saw a woman there who lost 69 pounds in 4 months!

Is she just an extraordinary individual or is that sort of loss possible for the rest of us mere mortals?

Has anyone out here experienced amazingly quick losses? If so, how did you do it??

I lost 35 pounds the first couple of months when I started. Then my body put the brakes on for 8 months

I am now down 48 pounds and have been holding at 150 for the past 2 months. No gain. No loss. Just in a holding pattern.

I figure when my body decides to start dumping fat again it will take off when it is ready. I am not forcing it. It took me 10 years of complete indifference to put 60 pounds on....my body will decide when it is ready to get rid of it

Hi there.
How would you feel about posting what you eat on a given day/days. It maybe something in your eating plan stalling things. I know that I can't have pickels, processed meats, too much cheese...etc, etc...

Maybe we can help...

I've actually been keeping a little food journal. Here's what a typical day looks like...

Breakfast: 2 egg omelet
2 slices of American Cheese
1 Tbs butter (to cook the eggs )

AM Snack: Atkins Advantage Bar (cookies and creme)

Lunch: 1 1/2 c Dole Salad Mix
2 Slices of Turkey
1/2 c cheddar cheese
2 Tbs italian dressing

PM Snack: Designer Whey Protein shake

Dinner: Baked chicken quarter (w/ skin )
1c broccoli
1c cauliflower
2 Tbs Parmesian cheese

My totals for this day were: 98.5g/protein 25g/carbs 1454 calories

I also walked a 22 minute mile.

I know I went over by 5 grams of carbs, but other than that, I think I did okay.

I've read that cheese can be a culprit. Maybe you should try cutting out the cheese and see what happens.

Hi!

I;m new here, so this is just my two cents.... from reading all that I have been here, it would also seem that perhaps you aren't eating enough! I don't think 1400 cals is enough based on your current weight. ALso, most people agree that those bars and shakes can sometimes wreak havoc with you particularly in the beginning. Hope this helps! Good luck!

Hi
You should be eating 10 to 12 times your body weight so you should up your calories. You can have more than 2 slices of turkey to add to calories. You could also have ham or bacon with your omelet. I know I found that if I get my calories up I lose more. I have days where I don't eat enough and the scale doesn't move.
Also American cheese is more of a processed cheese and we should be eating hard cheese during induction and only small amounts.
Read the book carefully.

A nother thing to look at is the advantage bars.. they have hidden carbs and can be as high as 9 carbs and up on certain bars.... may only show 1-2 carbs but actualy its way more... so try cutting the bars out before the cheese...thats just my opinion.. some of them bars have been known to be stallers in some peoples weightloss... cant hurt to try it for a couple of weeks and see...

Kill em!

As for the protien shake..Maybe not but you should cut it out anyways for a week and then add it back in and see if you have any stalls..

A lil too much cheese too

Oh darklove! It is definitely the calories!!!!

These guys are right about ditching the bars and the shakes (though making your own protein shake with whey powder and cream and AS....after induction that is, would probably be fine) but don't get rid of the cheese quite yet, ESPECIALLY if it one of your favorite things! Nuts and cheeses stall some people, but personally I think unless you're eating them by the truckload they aren't harmful to most people in small doses. We all want this to be a permenant way of life, and getting rid of all the yummiest things about this WOE and only eating meat and salads would make this a DIET and diets only set you up to fail!!

Darklove, pour that butter on your veggies, add cream to EVERYTHING. It may feel weird after years of low-fat brainwashing, but I guarantee it will help you lose faster. I have been eating over 2000 calories a day consistantly and at 149 pounds, I should be gaining weight, right?

I've actually been literally melting.

Try to aim for 3000 calories (I know, I know, it's hard, this diet is a natural appetite killer) but force yourself. At the very least get up above 2000, because at 1400 calories your body currently thinks it is experiencing a famine (it still thinks it lives in hunter gatherer times, silly thing ) and WILL NOT let go of fat if it can help it.

Screw getting rid of the cheese, and up those calories! Sorry if I sound like a high school football coach, I just get really into this, I love this WOE and there is nothing more exciting than a fat loss whoosh.....and nothing more devastating than trying soooo hard and feeling like a failure.

GOOD LUCK!

Gracie...

I think you may be right. I read the book and claim to be willing to step out on faith and engage in this WOE, but it literally does terrify me!!

I guess its the years of dieting that has me feeling like if I keep eating like this, the one time I screw up, and eat a potato I'm gonna blow up like damn circus balloon!

It's scary to be 300lbs. I don't think I could deal with losing a whole bunch of weight only to gain it all back. I really do think that's what scares me the most. I bought a bunch of Dr. Atkins bars and stuff thinking, "Well he did write the book. Who better to buy my food from?" Now it seems like that may have been a mistake too.

GRRrrr!!!! This is sooo frustrating!

hi darrklove, hang on in there. It seems to be working pretty well for a lot of people. I've struggled with the idea that so many calories will make me fatter, but I've decided that I'm going to do it - it is scary being fatter than you want to be and doing something that you think might make you worse, but there's a lot of experience in these forums and they've been through it and found out more calories works. See some of Natrushka's posts about this.
All the best, Jay
