Default Breath help?

I am concerned about controlling ketosis breath. I have the tongue scraper, breath assure, sugar free gum. Can anyone recommend a product that they have had good luck with in controlling the breath that comes with this diet? I have an understanding girlfriend, but wish to get rid of the metallic
breath. ;0)

Welcome to our forum, Grondike.

Seems like you covered the bases in terms of products. How about drinking lots of water? It should clear a lot of the ketone bodies through urine leaving lesser amounts to ejected through breath. Just my 2 cents.

Wa'il

P.S. Your pics look great (if you're the guy in common in most photos), can't be just 20 lbs.?

Smile hi grondike, welcome aboard

Wa'il is right ... drink up! Also, eat more fiber.

Excess ketones that aren't burned as fuel are excreted mainly via the kidneys, but also the bowel and the lungs. Most of the products you listed (which are great, by the way, but not for this problem) ... won't work on any of those areas. Making the bowel and kidneys more efficient at eliminating wastes is your best bet for reducing the amount of ketones that have to be released in your breath. In fact, keto-breath is a frequent sign of dehydration.

The tongue scrapers etc are great for oral bacteria... and Breath Assure works to neutralize odors in the stomach (for this I am grateful, as I am a confirmed garlicaholic .. ) .. but they have no effect on the lungs. So, more fiber for the bowel, and more water/fluids for both bowel and kidneys!!

And yes, great pics!!

Default Thanks

Hey,

Thanks to both of you. I am going to drink up and eat my fiber. Thanks for the compliments on the photos! Compliments are one of the great side-effects of low-carb lifestyle. ;0)

Doreen - What types of food would you count as fiber?

Default hi MDukes

Nice to hear from you again ..

Fiber foods ... vegetables, leafy greens, spinach, broccoli, asparagus, cabbage .... lowcarb fruits, berries, cantaloupe .... nuts and seeds ... flax seeds especially ... unsweetened Metamucil or plain psyllium husks

Fiber and water go hand in hand ... the fiber absorbs water creating bulk ... and this helps make elimination more efficient.

Hope this helps ..

Doreen

Default ketosis breath and fiber

Appreciate the info on ketosis breath. Does it really get that bad and is there a preventive way to plan ahead to avoid or lessen it?

Wal-mart makes an unsweetened generic fiber-lax that I have been using for years. Its gentle, works well, and most of all its cheap-about half the price of Metamucil.

Default oh noooo!

I've been popping Altoids (flavored mints) right and left and it never even dawned on me to see if it contained sugar until I saw where Grondike said something about "sugar-free" gum!! Turns out 3 Altionds have 2g of carbs and 2g of sugar, infact the main ingredient listed is sugar!

How dumb can I get, huh?

Bye Bye Altiods, hello toothbrush!

Tina
