Unhappy Problems with spotting

I have a ? I have been LC for about a year off and on I have always had some spotting in between periods but here recently my period will come about a week early and then last for two weeks. Has anyone had problems like this? Or other problems with their period.

This is my 7th week on Atkins and the first month I had no spotting, but this month, I spotted about the time that I usally ovulate and then I got my period a week early. It is discouraging and I am hoping that it will just even itself out. The good news is that it is really light.

Hi...I don't know if this is an appropriate place to post this but spotting during ovulation can be normal. DO check with your doctor, though, any time you have any spotting...don't take the word of a person on a message board. But don't fret either while you're waiting for your doctor's appointment because many women spot during ovulation. I do. Hang in there,

Default I read.....

I read in the protein power book that inadequate fat on an LC diet can cause this. Not sure what "adeqquate" would be...but I also experience this.

I eat plenty of healthy fats. I always spot a little during my ovulation....Dr says this is normal. But with the LC diet, I spot more, and for longer duration.

I've asked my doctor about this and she didn't know much about it so don't count your doctor knowing about this either. When you eat very low in carb and thus burning lots of fat, the hormones released from the fat metabolism will offset your cycle. The good news is that it is normal and not detrimental to your health. Many women go through this when they are lowcarbing.. in time cycle will normalize.. sometimes not.. but it's not harmful..

What Serrelind said....I have never spotted in my life or had such heavy periods in my life until I started lowcarbing. I am looking at it like I am losing LOADS of fat so I try not to complain but it is a pain.

I eat lots of fat - I have PCOs and I really thought LC would help with that... but I am spotting a lot and am having really messed up cycles

I don't have PCOS but have been Trying to Concieve for the last 5 months. I think that this will help in the long run, but for now it is a pain!

Wow, I'm glad I read this, I have been spotting more and more since I've been doing LC....thought it was an age thing

I'm soooo glad I subscribed to this board....I feel like I will get MANY of my questions answered just by reading

One good thing I have noticed is my skin....OMG it's awsome, people want to know what I use....NOTHING, a face cloth with cold water, no cream

Wooohoooo for low carbing!!!

Spotting in between and earlier periods. Ever since i started or shortly after.
It sucks.
How can any living being bleed that much and not die?

I believe the spotting is brought on by the estrogen in the body fat you are losing. When I was LC years ago and losing plenty of fat, I would spot too. Another poster informed me that body fat, especially in women, has estrogen stored in it. When the fat is broken down, the estrogen is released and can cause breakthrough bleeding.
