Lightbulb Dr. recommended low carb for Panic attacks

Started early January at the suggestion of my Doctor. have been experiencing awful anxiety after the death of my dear Dad last April. I really went into a tailspin after that and was suffering with depression also. After some counseling and self help Doc said it would help to try to level my Blood sugar with Dr atkins diet. I have to say its been really wonderful. I haven't had an attack in over 2 weeks and have been considering coming off of Paxil. Would like to know if anyone else's experiences are the same. It was getting to the point where I didn't want to leave the house and I knew I could not do that. I read about this also and hope it helps . One thing that is great is that I have lost about 9lbs too. I need to lose weight really badly too so this is really great.

Default Welcome Marys1234

Hi Marys1234, and welcome to the forum.

Firstly, my condolences over your father, which was obviously a massive blow. Sorry also about the depression, anxiety, and panic attacks.

Great news, though, about the positive and beneficial effects this way of eating are having for you. I have not yet come across doctors advising low-carb remedies for anxiety, but this doctor was clearly well clued-up, and it does make sense if you think about those insulin spikes being evened out.

And on top of it all, you're losing weight too. Does life improve any more?

Well actually, yes. Because you have also found us. We are helpful, supportive, and very friendly. If you start up a journal (under the "m" section of the Bootcamp/Journals section) you will quickly find friends and support on all issues of concern. All you have to do is ask.

Best wishes,

Andy

Welcome to the forum mary!

You must have a great doctor and you are lucky to have one that supports low-carb. Sorry to hear about the loss of your Dad.

May I suggest to you that you read Protein Power or the new edition of Dr. Atkins Diet Revolution. You willed be amazed to see what low-carb can do for you besides helping your panic attacks.

Keep us up to date!

Karen
