Hi - I'm on week four now of induction but haven't really lost anything since the first week.

I keep reading a lot about eating fat. Apart from chicken skin I don't eat the fat on meat simply because I don't like it. I cook with olive oil, eat a little cheese and have a four or five coffee's a day with cream in them. This is the only fat I eat. From what I understand from posts I have been reading it seems like I should be eating more but how, and in what form.

Any idea's / advice appreciated.

Thanks
Donna

Butter, avocados, heavy cream, full fat mayonnaise, bacon...

Go to www.fitday.com and enter your foods. If your fats comprise about 65-75% of your cals, you're good. And you really DO need it to drop fat on LC, so suck it up and eat the stuff. It's good for you.

I know it's hard to phathom, but you need fat to succeed on low carb. I couldn't grasp the concept either, constantly watching my fat intake... But then I stopped losing. I upped the fat and whala! A whoosh. I'm not suggestion you start digging into a bucket of lard or anything, you'll still want to try and use more "healthy" fats, like olive oil and avocado's, but don't be afraid to use more saturated fats too, like butter and mayonnaise. Trust me, this will work a lot better if you eat more fat.

Hi Donna, be patient the weight will come off in time. I did increase my fat intake too and the weight starting coming off again.
I do know that Atkins says to watch your caffeine intake, I'm not sure what effect it has but there must be a reason. Hang in there!!!

Yep. Fat's good for you. Butter is actually a very healthy fat - it contains medium chain triglycerides, which actually help your body release fat. Coconut oil is even higher in MCT. There's nothing wrong with saturated animal fat.
The only truly bad fats are the trans fats - avoid those like the plague.
And read here if you need more info on fats:

I roasted a couple chickens and then made a gravy of the drippings with a little added butter and some thickinthin. I feel so guilty eating it as it is animal fat but it's sooo dang good!! Someone please tell me it's good for me....

YIPPEE!!!
It is so hard to believe that I'm not gonna clog the old pipes by eating stuff like that!! I have a hard time wrapping my mind around the "fat is good" reality when those old LowFat voices creep up and bite me in the a** on a regular basis!!! Sometimes this wol seems just too good to be true!!

I TOTALLY know how you feel - my cholesterol was high enough to medicate by the time I was 33 - on a low-fat diet, egg white omelettes, and running 10k 3x a week.

Now, it's enviably low.

Eating butter, egg yolks, chicken skin, bacon, avocados, and coconut milk.

God loves us!
