Default Not Eating Eggs Because of Low-Carb Craze? Experts say!

"People may be risking their health by not eating vital foods such as eggs and cheese from their meals because of the low-carbohydrate diet ‘craze’, health experts warned this week."

And the rest of the article made about as much sense.

The world is going mad...

Hmmm Well in defence of us ignorant Aussies, Laura ;

You would really like to know what actual questions were asked on behalf of "Go Grains, an initiative of the Australian grains industry " - a clearly impartial group..

The survey found 20% of women had tried a low carb diet or planned to try - twice as many as men. On that basis 10% of women and 5% of men may have actually read a low carb book (not all low carb dieters do) - but presumably they asked their "what are high carb foods" question of the all respondents - including the 92 1/2% (men and women) who could be excused for some level of ignorance!

Cheers,

Malcolm

Some foods with carbohydrates can help fight against cancer, heart disease and diabetes, while the milder side effects of low-carb diets include lethargy, constipation, dehydration and bad breath.

like what foods?

Hi, Malcolm! Nice to see you! I notice the Protein Power board is still down for the count due to the hurricane.

Indeed - but I wouldn't expect them to be so darned concerned about people not eating their eggs and cheese! It's one of the things that boggled my mind.

You make great points as always! I guess I was just trying to point out that admist this backlash, people are saying the nuttiest things "against" low-carb diets.

I assume they are talking about foods with lots of phytonutrients and antioxidants. Those goodies tend to ride along with veggies, fruits, and other plant foods like chocolate . Lucky for us, a lot of the foods with the highest concentrations of them tend not to be the highest-carb of the lot (with some exceptions, like oranges). Think berries, broccoli, flax seed, tea, spinach...

However, only one-third realised lollies and soft drinks contained carbohydrates, and one in five mistakenly believed cheese and eggs were carbohydrate rich.

The article actually said that 20% of people thought cheese and eggs are high in carbs.

It's all about reporters (who haven't read the books) writing about low-carbers (who haven't read the books). Misinformation all around.
