Well, I had what I thought was IBS, it disappeared after about 1 year of low carbing. But now I'm wondering if perhaps I have celiac disease, because I was eating wheat gluten (which is low carb), until recently, I haven't had much LC bread for the past few months. But then I started eating more LC breads and I had an attack. Hmmm....

Anyway, the others are high blood pressure and low blood sugar. BP went down very shortly after I started low carbing, so I think it was related to diet, rather than weight loss!

I also had high triglycerides, and those should be down now.

No more headaches (I used to buy ibuprofen by the 500 tab bottle) and periods are less painful. Much less brain fog and mid-afternoon sleepiness, although I do find that I wake up very early now (5:30 am on average) and so I am sometimes a bit sleepy in the late afternoon and certainly ready for bed by 10:00 pm or so.

Fewer colds, too. Seasonal allergies don't seem to have been affected much one way or the other -- my sinuses are still partially plugged all spring and summer -- but I can cope with that without resorting to medication now.

Degenerative arthrits, neck and back. Was taking Motrin 800mg 4X/day with Tylenol and an occasional Percocette when things got bad. Now only take Aspirin once a day at most for headaches (caused by neck), no other meds.

GERD, other issues. Was taking Nexium 2X/day (had to get special approval from Ins co!) as well as a nausea med 1-2X/day. Not taking Nexium every other day only. Symptoms of "irritable bowel" also completely gone.

Skin....had sores on arms from scratching, mostly in my sleep....now all healed.

Spastic blader....no change

Menopause.....no change.

Both DH and I are lcing, and we actually started because he was having knee problems. Last December after what should have been a minor pull on the knee while climbing some stairs, his knee got incredibly swollen. He was told he needed surgery, but after seeing my aunt struggle with the results of her knee surgery for over six months, he decided he'd try something else first.

We didn't start lcing right away after that, and his knee got a little better but he had to use a cane and a knee brace, and at 35, he didn't think that was a lot of fun.

Now, after roughly 5 weeks on Atkins, his knee pain is gone, there's no inflammation and he doesn't need a cane or brace anymore. He also used to complain of lower back pain which is now gone. The dark circles under his eyes have virtually disappeared after years of being there. His intestinal problems have resolved. Last week we were on vacation and he cheated a couple of days, but felt so awful afterwards (heartburn and stomach upset) that he says it wasn't worth it. Also, after cheating, his belly got immediately bigger and he definitely didn't like that.

As for myself, my skin has cleared up and for the first time in years, the side effects of a cortisone shot to treat my solar dermatitis have been incredibly mild (no moon face this time, yay!). Also, I haven't been having so many migraines.

So, yes, we're going to stick to this WOE.
