Default Help

Hi All,

I am a lowcarbing 20 year old and have lost about 21 pounds so far. I want to lose atleast abohter 100 more though. The reason I feel I havent lost more is because I seem to not understand what I can and cannot have. You guys had a post about diet pepsi and how is affects your weight loss. I am going back to the beginning on Atkins now, starting obviosuly on Induction Can I drink diet pepsi then? i feel if I do I am more likely to be more likely to stay focused on the diet. help anyone?

Default Diet Pepsi?

Hi,

If I read it correctly, you aren't supposed to have aspertame or caffeine on induction and I believe Diet Pepsi is made with nutrasweet (a.k.a. aspertame). If you really NEED diet soda, go with Diet Rite. It is caffeine free, sodium free and made with either Splenda or stevia, both legal on induction and I prefer the taste of it as well.

Hope this helps.

I agree, if you can find Diet Rite in your area, switch to that.

However, my mom has always had Diet Pepsi -- through induction, OWL, and now maintenance. Like you, she thought it helped her stay on-plan. But you have to be aware that it CAN stall you (everyone is different) and that Atkins specifically says not to have it during induction (if I remember correctly).

Good luck!

Calorie-free sodas are allowed according to the list in the induction chapter. In my edition of DANDR, he cautions about the safety questions about aspartame, and prefers Splenda over Nutraweet for that reason.

I wouldn't recommend drinking a LOT fo diet soda of any kind, but Diet A&W with a splash of heavy cream saved me from attacking MANY a rootbeer float...

I actually like Diet Rite better than the aspartame diet sodas, although try to drink sparingly (i.e. 1 every other day) and only when I have had my water - I have to treat myself like a child to get my water in . We were out last night though and to have something in my hand and avoid going over the edge, I drank a regular Diet Coke - so I agree with potatofree....only in moderation and if the leser of 2 evils
