Default Questions about fitday, carbs, calories...

OK, so I'm really going to try and start using FitDay everyday so I can see where my calories and carbs and stuff are coming from. Today wasn't that great of a day, but I guess it could have been worse.

Here is what I had today:

LC Thickburger from Hardee's
1/2 of soft taco from Taco Bell
1 inside of soft taco from Taco Bell
2 servings of Dreamfields pasta with homemade alfredo
chicken with bacon and mushrooms in sour cream sauce

According to FitDay this is how it breaks down for the day:

Calories: 3425
Net carbs: 36 g (if the Dreamfields is REALLY 5 g per serving!!!)
% cal from fat: 69
% cal from carb: 4
% cal from protein: 27

Also according to FitDay my calories burned for the day (basal + seated work lifestyle + NO exercise) is 4820. That is a difference of 1395 calories which I guess is good. I also have consumed 262 grams of fat!!! I never realized how much that is!!!

Anyways, what I want to know from everyone is this:
  1. How do those percentages look for calories from fat, carb, protein?
  2. How accurate do you guys find the calories burned on FitDay? It seems a bit high to burn 4820 calories in a day without exercising.
Thanks a bunch!!!

Your percentages look fine, although you could have higher fat if you want.

I am wondering, though--where's the veggies? I would've had the Alfredo over a bed of steamed broccoli instead of LC pasta. But then again, I'm a broccoli nut--eat it for lunch, snacks, supper.

What do you think the LC thickburger was!

Just kidding. I generally have more, but this week has been killer. I am married and have 2 kids, and all week we have had a friend and her THREE kids staying with us. Things are so hectic around here and I've been so busy with work and school that I eat pretty much the first things I can.

Thanks for asking though!

Hi Chris,

Your questions about FitDay are good ones, I'm too new at it to answer your questions, but just wanted to say that I downloaded the $19.95 version, and it's MUCH easier to use. Lots of extras, and I don't have to be online to use it.

Congrats on your weight loss, your doing so well!

Fiona,

Thanks for the response. With the PC version, can everyone look at it like the online version? I don't mind being online since the computer is turned on about 15 hours a day and it's online the entire time.

1) Percentages look good. Shoot for 70% on Fat.

2) I never understood or believed the fitday calories burned thing...No matter what number it gave me, I ran under by a 1000 calories or more and I still was stalled, There is another website (collins something) that gives a better clue on calorie counts you should be eating for height/weight etc. I will see if I can dig it up.

Here it is. Click on the link in the first paragraph, then answer the questions. You can do current stats then redo with goal information to give you a range of calories.

Hope that helps!

BBQ man...

If you go to the activities section (on the left of the page) it will show you the breakdown of calories burned and will let you add any activities from working out to having sex or general housework! Pretty interesting! I use it almost everyday so I will be glad to answer any questions I can.

Annette,

I found that last night as I was exploring. In your opinion how accurate is the calories burned for Basal rate and lifestyle? It says I burned 4820 calories yesterday and I didn't do anything!

for your weight, that may be right. I think mine reads around 2000 something (2400 is coming to mind, but I sometimes work out and dont know if that # is with or without the wo). I found the basal calories burned to be a great guideline for me. I try to eat a little more than that number. That is the amount you need if you need to eat to to keep your body running in a resting state and to stay out of starvation. You can usually eat a little more and still lose because you are not "resting" all day. Make sense? For a MAN of your size, I would say that may be correct. I would go more by the basal number though, as it is calculated based on your height, weight, gender, age, etc. and it works for me.

I only looked at yesterday, but it looked good....basal is 3300 for you and you ate 3400, but it says you should have burned around 4700. Should work out good for you!
