Default Anyone ever hear of the yogurt fast?

I have read on a few other message boards about something called the "low carb yogurt fast". basically you replace meals with LC yogurt and people are having dramatic results. Here is the rundown:

Basically for 3 days you substitute 2 yogurts per meal and 1 yogurt per snack for 3 days. You can add a little protein (few ounces) per meal just to give yourself a little OOmph. Then you eat a normal low-carb meal once during each of the 3 days.

Now people who are doing this claim to be losing 3-5 pounds per session. I know on this board people say stay away from the LC yogurt. Does anyone think this would work? I mean it must work for some right? I guess they are saying it has to do with the calcium.

... or the fact you're only consuming a lot fewer calories a day. Just my 2 cents, but I NEED real food during the day, or "supper" would be basically the entire contents of my kitchen.

I am certainly NOT an expert in nutrition but of course this would work! But if you eat anything solely and sparsely you will lose weight. If you ate a cupcake three times a day and half of one for a snack you would lose weight (not that I have ever tried that hehe). It is just restricting calories in an extreme way. The problem is, it usually just comes right back on! I tried the Atkins fat fast once (where you eat only macadamias and cream cheese) and I lost 7 pounds in three days and it came back in three days! One thing for sure, you would probably never be tempted to eat yogurt again .

There are lots of these 'one food only' type fasts. They were a feature of the Stillman's diet when it first came out. They all work - but only because you are eating less calories.

Done for too long your metabolism would slow down and that would be a disaster.

The egg fast (you eat only eggs) is also supposed to work really well.

<giggle> I was following someone on the board in her attempt to do the egg fast. I'm glad I wasn't "following" closely...downwind....

I thought it was wierd too but these people are claiming to have lost a lot of weight doing this. But heres the thing, I really feel that I am restricting calories with Atkins. Also he was the one that said in DANDR to do the fat fast with nuts and cream cheese. Wouldn't that be a fad diet? I am not trying to start an argument just stating the obvious.

The fat fast is only to be done under extreme circumstances, for people who are severely insulin resistant. And no, it wouldn't be a fad diet. A fad diet is a diet everyone jumps on the band wagon to follow--like Atkins is right now. Of course there are those of us who know how good Atkins is, and know that deep down it's more than just a fad.

The fat fast can be abused and used as a crash diet. That's not the intention, but people after a quick fix don't pay attention, generally, to any pesky fine print like "Only used for severe metabolic resistance. Dangerous to those who lose weight fairly easily" etc...
