Unhappy Yuck... yellow tongue

OK, I hope someone has had a similar experience with this... I'm pretty grossed-out about it!

Lately, I've noticed my tongue has this yellow-ish covering on it. If I brush it, it goes away, but it comes back shortly thereafter. I don't know for sure if it is causing bad breath, but I would assume that it is. I don't remember ever seeing this before I started LC-ing, so I'm guessing it has something to do with that.

Has this has happened to anyone else? If so, what did you do about it? Did it ever go away?

Any words of advice would be greatly appreciated!

Sometimes there are certain foods and stuff that will stick to your tounge or maybe a super think beverage. Try usuing listerine too, that might get it off and keep it off a little easier.

Actually, I use mouthwash several times throughout the day -- I have my tongue pierced, so I need to use it after every meal to keep that healthy -- and that's not helping either.

Sorry, I just don't know then, could it be the listerine making your tounge yellow? I think I remember when my tounge was pierced that the origanal type of mouthwash (not the minty stuff) almost coated my tounge because I was using it so much.

Thanks, Pandora. I've had my tongue pierced for several years, and I've always used the blue Listerine without a problem (the original, brown one is nasty!)... before starting this WOE, I hadn't noticed a problem, anyway.

This may be way off...but what first came to my mind is thrush...like babies get. White/yellowish stuff that doesn't scrape off the tongue. It's a yeast thing. I'm not sure how to treat it...but it may be something to look into.

Are you eating alot of cheese? I notice that happens when I do. I also thought of yeast when you described what's happening. Do you have any yeast symptoms?

It is normal. I have read so many weightloss books over the last year. It is just your bodies way of releasing all the toxic foods that you have been putting into your body. You might experiance a slight headache or dizzyness too. They will pass.

Thanks for the replies, everyone.

As far as I can tell, I don't have any yeast symptoms -- that's the first thing I thought of, actually. I don't really eat a lot of cheese, either.

I'll wait a bit and see if it subsides. I sure as hell hope so, because I can't stand to look at it anymore. Frankly, the thought of it is nasty, too! Yuck!

I have the same thing going on. My tongue has had a slight whitish-yellowish coating for the past few months. I've gone to doctors to see what it is and they don't know. They tested and said there was no yeast, so not to worry and just watch it and make sure it doesn't start doing different things. I think it must be some odd side effect of atkins.

I would guess lack of water, somehow.

Since beginning Atkins and drinking profuse amounts of water, I HAVEN'T had a problem with coating on my tongue.

cmcole, I don't think it could be a lack of water. I have the same coating and I drink around 100 oz of water every day.

Hi

I used to have that wonderful coating when I was eating carbs. It is mostly gone now, but it flares up when I have way too much cheese or too many coffees with heavy cream.

I don't think it's lack of water, either. I'm drinking more water now than I ever have. I don't remember having this coating before Atkins, so I'm just going to assume that they are related.

This morning, it seems to be a little less yucky. We'll just see what happens.

Try some oregano oil. It seems to be a nutritional/immune deficiency. What supplements are you taking.
