Default The Carb Veggie Question

Okay--starting to come out of my self-pity from this morning. I have gained 4 pounds in 5 days after a cheat on Friday. The most common recommendation I have had is Eat More Carbs.

I've been doing Induction for 3 weeks, and 90% of the time my carbs are 10 or fewer each day. Now, the best and lowest calorie way to add more carbs is to eat more veggies. But, as Dr. A. says, I can only have 3 cups salad or 2 cups salad and 1 cup approved veggies each day. THat is definitely not enough to get to 20 carbs per day.

So here's the question: Can I eat veggies until I reach 20 carbs per day even if it means having 6 cups salad each day, or 4 cups salad and 2 cups other Induction veggies? Or will that blow the plan out of the water?

I guess I can't blow it any worse than I have... what would more veggies hurt?

I, too, have just finished my third week of induction. Honestly, there are some days when I go above the recommended intake of salad greens and vegetables (mainly because I'm so low on carbs). It hasn't hurt me, but everyone is different.

My advice is to try it and see what happens. If you start to gain, stop doing it and try something else. Since everyone is a bit different, you have to do what works for you -- even if it means straying from the plan a bit.

Good luck!

Yes you can. 20 carbs (net) after you have subtracted the fiber. Try that for a few days and see how things come out.

Hope that helps.

I feel that the 3 cup guide was to insure that you had at LEAST that amount of veggies. That still left some carbs for cheese, cream etc, but more veggies shouldn't hurt

Eat higher carb veggies such as brussel sprouts along with your regular lower carb ones. Put tomato and peppers on your salad. The carb count adds quickly.

carbs don't work like calories - you don't eat less to loose weight. Try upping your carbs from 10 to 20 and see if your body will drop some weight.

I don't believe anyone got fat from eating too many veggies.

I agree with trying some higher carb veggies. I would still try to keep with the 3 cups a day. (a little over...maybe but not 20 carbs a day worth) . Look at your induction foods list and try to eat more of the foods that have carbs...eggs ..avocado and olives have high fat high carb count...cream.. etc.

I'm currently eating 30-40 carbs per day and losing weight. Basically I don't even bother fussing over the carb counts in the veggies I eat, and I've added frequent strawberries to my diet.

My feeling is you just can't go wrong eating lots of low carb veggies. They're filling, they're good for you, and they don't seem to slow my weight loss at all.
