Default New and vegetarian

Hi everyone,

I have about 50 lbs to lose and have just decided that a high protein diet is the way to do it. I am a lacto-ovo vegetarian, meaning that I can have dairy and eggs. I am thinking of cutting out all the grains and sugars, and only have proteins (eggs, cheese, tofu, and nuts) with some vegetables.
Are there any other vegetarians here? Any ideas? Anybody in the same boat?
I have tried the Atkin's diet before, the induction phase, but had problems sticking with it because I got bored after a few days, my options being so limited.
However, I desperately need to lose weight now, so that I can gain my life back and so am willing to try it again. I will not count carbs anymore, but have my meals consist of 80 percent protein sources and 20 percent vegetables.
Help?!

Howdy and welcome! I'm not veggie, but my SO is. It makes cooking a challenge. You'll find plenty of ideas here. There are tons of great recipes!

Welcome to the forum!!

I am also an ovo lacto vegetarian and have had a great time low carbing for a little over a year!!

I was bored at first too but you really just have to be creative. Be sure to check out the vegetarian section and I also post recipes and stuff like that in my journal.

Good luck and best wishes to weightloss success!!!

Unhappy New, was Veg before Atkins -- what now?

Hi, another newbie introducing self.

I found out through looking at Atkins and related info that I'm what's known as "morbidly obese" at 235, 5' 3".

Never been a dieter (afraid of the health risks and yo-yoing) but have been going steadily up since adolescence, big jump with birth of my son (actually, all the eating afterwards to keep up energy to nurse and work).

Have been veg since 9 years old, more or less, with lactose intolerance. Read that you can't do Atkins and be veg, and I've tried to make the switch, but find myself quite mucousy, tired, sluggish, bloated on all this protein. Also, lost 15 pounds in first 2 weeks, then plateaued (even gained a bit, but it's back off). Don't know if this is the right choice, but I'm a little desparate, since I already ate low-processed food, lots of whole grains, real veggies, etc.--never was a fast food freak.

Also, can't do weight-bearing exercise due to severe plantar faciitis, knees you can hear 100 yards away.

Looking for inspiration. Any suggestions here?

Here is a thread on Atkins and vegetarianism.

You can do Atkins and be vegetarian, but probably not vegan. That would be really hard. You will probably have to give up the grains until you are closer to goal weight.
