Default fitday counts?

I am wary of using this fitday thing. I started my account today and they say that 1 egg has 2g carbs, but Atkins and everyone else on this board basically agrees that eggs have .5g carbs. Maybe I shouldn't bother with it.

Are you sure that was for one egg? I've never seen the count that high for one egg, no matter what size.

Always add in the raw count plus whatever fat etc you cook with. For example.. fitday automatically adds in milk for the count on scrambled eggs if you add them in as scrambled eggs.

I only eat them boiled, deviled or as egg salad. The only ingredient I use is mayo (and both the books AND the reps at Atkins say as long as it is real mayo, it has no carbs).

Mayo has negligible carbs in a 1 or 2 Tbs serving, anything higher than that, you need to count the carbs.

I looked back on fitday.com and they are asking for serving sizes, once I figured that out, I saw that eggs are 1g on their site. But, it looks complicated, and I can't find some of the foods I eat on there.

Blue, if you cannot find the food you need, try creating a "custom food". All you need to know is the calories, fat, carbs, and protein for a serving. It's really helpful for prepackaged foods or fast food.

GRR. It takes too long to find anything on the site! Instead of not counting either the eggs OR the mayo I am going to try just counting the eggs, and see what happens.

Blue

Once I got used to fitday I totally love it!

I can't go without it now and will probably order the deluxe version....I love how I can enter in foods that I either buy or prepare myself with the custom food feature.

It helps me keep track of my carbs along with everything else... and the reason it counts 1 egg as 1 carb is because if it didn't then it would appear there is no carbs in an egg.... try putting 2 eggs as your serving size and you will see that it still counts it as 1 carb.

I've tried using fitday and I dont really like it either. The carb counts never seem to match the carbs on the actual labels. What I've been doing is keeping my own journal w/ carbs/fat/cal and whenever I cant see a package I check the atkins carb counter. Fitday is good for calories burned though. Maybe I just need to get used to fitday or know some info on how to work it, b/c the egg count came up 2g also, but I didnt count them for raw so maybe I should try that.

One thing to keep in mind about FitDay is that some of the default measurements are just downright scary! For example, when you add mayonnaise, it defaults to 1 cup. You have to manually change it. It also defaults to 1 cup for raw eggs. I enter in my foods, then look at the totals for a good laugh, then go and change the quantities.

Also, it usually rounds carb counts up, which is a good thing, in my opinion. All in all, though, at the end of the day you'll find a fairly accurate count, because it doesn't round up each individual item, but totals them, then rounds up. Then all you have to do is deduct the fiber from the gross carbs.

I love FitDay!

Yeah, I just registered for fitday today too and for one egg, you need to reset the default from one cup to one egg, and then the carbs are much less scary!!!

I've come to the conclusion that the possible reason for the crazy defaults is that it REALLY catches your attention if the portion isn't what you are eating, so that instead of being off by a jumbo egg instead of a small egg it shows a cup which you KNOW you didn't eat

Just my idea fwiw
