Default Are you a non-cheater?

One thing that kind of blows me away is that I don't cheat on my diet. I can't remember a time ever before when I didn't cheat, at least a little! But with Atkins, I just don't have any desire to cheat, refeed, take a "break" or whatever. It isn't because I have iron discipline, it's just because I don't really feel a need to. Is is over 1 year now, I think I've had 2 times I've gotten off the diet. Maybe a french fry stolen from my sister's plate was one. The other was last NY's eve.

Anyone else?

I haven't had the slightest desire to cheat, however I'm doing a 'planned cheat' on my birthday next week. Favorite food has always been spaghetti, the way my mom makes it. She's making it for my birthday. Its only once a year and I won't be going overboard with it.

Other than the first few weeks...I can only think of a 2 times, when I really truly cheated. I've had small indulgences [Bread and/or Potatoes] on special days, like Thanksgiving. But, I just went to Maintnance levels for those days. Other than the one Regular Cookie I accidently* ate a couple days ago, I haven't had any Regular [i.e. Sugar and White Flour] Cookies, Cake, and such...since going LC.

As for my 2 cheats...One time, last March I binged on Fruit. I ate a couple Cantaloupes and 4 Oranges, which is about 92g Net Carbs. The other time was August of last year. I discovered Starch Blockers. I decided to test them out. I went to the Buffet, took a couple, and then ate about 100g [Net CHO] of Rice, Potatoes, and Spaghetti...The Rice and Spaghetti actually tasted bad to me. I didn't gain any weight, so I continued using them. I stayed at about 60g Net a day and ate a Baked Potato every day for a few weeks. I didn't lose much weight during that period, and I eventually gave them up because they caused horrible constipation and gas. My "Cheat-Free" Counter [which I haven't updated in a few weeks] counts from the last time I took a Starch Blocker. Even though the Carbs I was taking in were not excessive, I still consider it a cheat, if only because of the fact I was using the Starch Blockers.

*As for the accidental cookie...I was getting my Car fixed, so I ran from the Dealership to a nearby Subway. They now have those Atkins Cookies. This Subway had signs advertising their new Atkins Double Chocolate Chip Cookies. So, I looked and they had some cookies labelled "Double Chocolate Chip." Figuring these were the Atkins Cookies, since they were the only Double Chocolate Chip Cookies they had on Display, I bought one. I knew as soon as I ate it, there was something...because the thing tasted too damn good to be 7g Net Carbs.

I was gonna count them as 12g, which is Total - Fiber...until Subway responds to my email asking what the ingredients are. Primarily, I'm trying to find out what the Sugar Alcohol(s) are, which it has 5g of. I found out later that day, what I'd gotten was one of their regular Double Chocolate Chip Cookies. That store apparently didn't have any of the Atkins Double Chocolate Chip Cookies in their display, which I mistakingly assumed the Double Chocolate Chip Cookies they had in the display were the Atkins Double Chocolate Chip Cookies.

Its kinda Good and Bad at the same time. No Corn Syrup or HFCS, and only about a Tablespoon of White Sugar, which allowed me to simply reduce my Carbs for the rest of my day and stay within my Carb limit (60g.) But, the regular cookies are also made with Hydrogenated Oils [Margarine in the Cookie and Partially Hydrogenated Palm and Palm Kernel Oils in the "White Chips."] Looking at Atkins Approved Products in the past, about the only thing they never allow in an Atkins Approved food in Hydrogenated Oils. So, the Atkins cookies would not have had the Hydrogenated Oils. The Atkins Double Chocolate Chip Cookie apparently doesn't have the "White Chips," so I figure they probably just use Butter or Vegetable Oil instead of Margarine.

No cheats here. Closest I've gotten is eating a little too much of a LC treat on a special occasion when that extra slice of LC cheesecake is too hard to resists LOL
Beyonds that, I haven't touched pasta, bread or potatoes, etc.. in almost a year and a half. Some isn't appealing to me anymore, and others are just not worth the cost if you know what I mean.

I haven't touched any "bad" foods since I re-began induction, and I have no need to, or want to, cheat. Maybe it's because I feel so good, and am seeing results, that I don't want to risk the weight gain or stall, and screw my blood sugar up, setting me up to binge.

I have had some mini binges on legal foods, which hasn't stalled me. One can only eat so many deviled eggs

No cheats here - no desire - but then it's only been since January and honestly I try to not think of good or bad or cheating because then I continue to let food have more control than I wish it did. I continue to be amazed that I do not miss sugar, starches or wheat...

Good question, thanks for asking it.

I did great for the first whole YEAR. I literally didn't have a bite of anything off-plan.

When my loss stopped cold for nine months, it got harder and harder to stick with it.

I haven't had any desire to cheat, thanks to getting ready before I started this WOL. I spent a few months weaning myself off of carbs, getting counseling to deal with the reasons of hiding behind my weight, and doing a lot of reading. By the time I started a little over a month ago, I made positive changes, incorporated 1 hour a day of exercise into my life, cut out the junk carbs, have a great attitude, am not addicted to the scales' ups and downs and have created and maintained my environment for success. I also don't eat after 7PM, which before I was 'ready' was really hard, now I don't even have any desire to eat anything.

I know I am doing right by this WOL, I know the weight will come off, I know my exercise is great for me. I have the attitude that the weight didn't come on overnight, nor will it come off overnight.

I have not however, given up my cup of coffee in the morning. I like coffee and it hasn't stalled me at all. I stick with the whole foods, and though I have Atkins Bars, I only have 1-2 a week. I was never a junk food/fast food eater, and I'm dismayed at the amount of low-carb junk that's out there, because in the long run, if you don't have healthy eating habits and consistent exercise, you will not keep the weight off for any long period of time.

Make the lifestyle changes, Atkins isn't a quick fix.

Just can't do it .... too afraid of the consequences .... have overeaten things like extre cheese, nuts etc but not too often ... it too still amazes me that the impulse to grab is so under control .... some days I am just so not interested in food!

I usually fall off when I am drunken after the clubs...

I found for that my cheats every once in awhile really helped me to get back on the wagon and stay on it for longer time periods. I feel horrible when I eat processed foods now. Its just disgusting...No energy, mood swings, etc....I am proud of all of you who have gone 6 months without a cheat.

Did you get things moving again? If so, what worked for you?

I switched to CAD for a while, and that seemed to get things going a little. My major problem over the winter was the illness of my son and his two operations. I'd be exhausted and completely drained, hold out as long as I could, then fall off the wagon. (My original 9-month stall was when I quit smoking and lost my very active job within months of each other)

I think what's kept me from gaining it ALL back was the Dr Phil book. I know I push it a lot, but what I learned from it has kept me from giving up forever.
