Question is this rate of weight loss unhealthy??

Hello!! I am new to this forum. I just started Atkins and I have been losing a half a pound a day for about two weeks straight now. Is this unhealthy??? I was also wondering about low carb bread. I've been eating it, but is it good for this diet??

Wow, a half a pound a day! That's great! I would pay to see those results on me. I would think that as long as you are eatting nutritious foods and enough calories and you feel good that you should be fine. I know several people who have lost 10-15lbs in there first 2 weeks and are totally healthy. Plus, I have heard that sometimes you loose it kind of fast at the begining and then it slows a little.

Good luck to you!

It is common to lose a quite a bit of weight while on induction. When I was on Induction, I lost 1/2 lb a day. If you are eating healthy choices the weightloss is safe IMO. Drink plenty of water because you are losing quite a bit of water. Low carb bread is great but I do not think that it is recommended on induction. You are doing quite well, however, and it doesn't seem like the bread is stalling you. What else are you eating on this diet?

That's great! And no, not an unhealthy amount to lose during Induction. As Black57 said, part of the weight you're losing is water weight--it's always like that when you start trying to lose weight. Later on, though, weight loss usually slows a bit and you won't be losing water.

Low-carb bread can be used and abused. I personally (and this is only my opinion) think it's better to put vitamin-rich vegetables into our bodies than to use low-vitamin (or vitamin-enriched) breads. By nature, wheats have very little nutrition value. I use low-carb bread, but sparingly, like about once a week when I want a toasted cheese sandwich.

I lost a pound a day for 2 weeks when I started. It was coming off so fast it scared me...lol. But unfortunately it slows way down after that so I wouldn't worry one bit. As far as the bread goes...during induction you really should follow the plan to the letter....which means no bread yet.

I am eating salad with chicken, hard boiled egg, cheese, and oil and vinegar. I also add a little bit of almonds. I eat steak once a week and pork once a week. I try to stay away from red meat and bacon. I have a little, but I don't over do it. I drink lots of water and crystal light. I am not really doing strict induction. I usually have a sandwich a day with mayo, two slices of cheese, two slices of low carb bread and a meat. I snack on celery or veggies. I have an occasional low carb chocolate, but not too much because of their laxative effect.

I lost about 20 lbs the first 2 weeks. Then it slowed down so much I almost gave up. I'm up to about 35 pounds lost in the almost 2 months since I started. Right now I'm only losing about 2 pounds a week, which is okay, I guess, but I would love to speed it up to about 3 or 4. I'm thinking the serious slowdown these last couple of weeks is contributed to my being kinda "backed up". lol Once I resolve that, it might be good for about 3 pounds!
