Default Please recommend a decent SF pancake syrup!

I'm trying to substitute LC products wherever possible for my kids' diet. None of them have a weight problem, but I'm trying to cut down on their sugar intake for health reasons. I can't banish their love of pancakes, but I did buy Atkins SF syrup, and although it tastes OK it has the consistency of water. Can anyone recommend a SF pancake syrup that has the thicker, sticky consistency of traditional pancake syrup?

Thanks!

You can very easily thicken any sugar-free syrup by adding guar gum or xanthan gum. Both of these are usually available in health food stores or bulk food stores. They come as a whitish powder.

I use guar gum which gives a clear thickened liquid because it will thicken both hot and cold liquids. A tiny bit thickens A LOT of liquid, so start with less than 1/8 of a teaspoon. Just sprinkle the powder on the surface of the liquid and mix. It starts thickening within 15 seconds. Stir for a while, then add a tiny bit more if needed. You'll make a syrup out of anything.

I like the taste of the Atkins syrup. Its very watery though, so thickening it up may be essential.

Thank you for this suggestion -- I actually have guar gum in my pantry! Wonder why Atkins didn't think of this beforehand and incorporate it into their product.

Will my bottle of syrup with guar gum keep in the pantry if I add the guar gum all at once? I don't want to have to add it every time I make an individual serving of pancakes.

I like Walden Farms, it has a good flavor and I was surprised at how thick it is. I have seen it at Safeway and Fred Meyer here in Washington.

My hands down FAVORITE is Carey's Sugar Free. I love it. Tastes real. I have also tried Smucker's, which has a fake taste. Didn't like Smuckers obviously.

The thickest I've found is Joseph's, it's even thicker than the walden farms which i also have. It's just like proper maple syrup we used to get in vermont!! Yummy.

Default Log Cabin Sugar Free Low Calorie Syrup

Log Cabin just recently came out with a Sugar Free Low Calorie syrup sweetend with splenda. Sure tastes like syrup to me.........try it. You can probably find it at any grocery store.

Vermont - My diabetic son loves it and it is the sugar free syrup that is served at Cracker Barrell - that is what got him hooked on !! It is also sold under the name Spring something... sorry can't remember the entire thing.

We like the Steele's Gourmet pancake syrup because it is so thick and tastes like the real thing (plus it is Splenda sweetened)

Isn't the Cary's Sugar Free sweetened with sugar alcohols? I've yet to find a pancake syrup other than Atkins that's sweetened with just Splenda.
