Default Mock Chocolate Mousse

This is my own concoction. I am sure someone else did it before me but I have yet to read about it.

Here is my recipe for mock-chocolate mousse:

1/2 Cup Heavy Whipping Cream
4 packets Splenda (modify to your taste)
1 heaping tablespoon of Cocoa powder

Blend the ingredients in a mixing bowl.
Mix until it achieves whipped cream consistency (on high approx 1 minute)
Once the consistency is achieved, scoop into dessert dishes.
Freeze for 15 minutes or refrigerate for one hour
Serve

I tried this "recipe" this evening. It was "da bomb." According to my calculations it has about 2 grams of carbs per serving. These are actual carbs...not net! The heavy cream and splenda have 0 carbs. The cocoa powder has 4 grams per serving. Diluted in the cream it reduces the amount of carbs to about 2 per serving. These are my calculations. Check the label for yourself.

No problem, I have split your recipe and given it its own thread with the proper title.

If you ever have this happen again, just click on the at the bottom of the post and send us a message to have it moved. A Moderator will take care of it and it's not a big deal.

Hi longway2go I've been making basically the same thing since I started - sure I read it on here somewere, but hadn't thought of popping it in the freezer or fridge to let it settle a bit, I just eat it straight out of the mixing bowl!

Just to give you pointers on your carb count, packet splenda and cream are not 0 carb.

Splenda packets are 0.9g carb (Dr A says count them as 1) and 1/2cup heavy cream = 118ml. The numbers on all the heavy cream in the UK are 100ml = 2.6 -2.7g carbs. (The carb tools at the top of this forum list heavy whipping cream as 2.79g carbs per 100ml)

So your actual carb count per serving (assuming you make 2 servings) is

2g cocoa + 2g splenda + 1.5g cream = 5.5g carbs

The cocoa powder I use (Cadburys in the UK) is 1g for 10g of powder - which when I measure a level tablespoon, comes out at 7.5g weight = 0.75g carbs. Is your cocoa a pure cocoa with no added fillers/ sugars etc?

Default Cocoa Used

btw...thanks for the info. I'm not an expert on the carbs so I appreciate your input.

The cocoa I use in Hershey's Cocoa. Hershey's is a major manufacturer of chocolate and cocoa products here in the States. It is has no fillers (that I know of).

I love dessert. I usally have about 20-25 grams of carbs daily and then use another 6-10 on dessert. My ccl is 44 grams so I am okay. All I know is that weight continues to come off. I won't complain about that.

Default Simple Chocolate Mousse

I am not sure where I aquired this recipe but here it is:

Ingredients:
* 1 pkg. Jell-o sugar free pudding--chocolate
* 1 cup cold water
* 1 cup heavy cream

Directions:
Mix ingredients and chill.

Servings = 4

Note!!!
pudding = 8g carbs - 1g fiber = 7 net carbs
cream = 0g carbs
water = 0g carbs

net carbs = 1.75g

enjoy Maren Stoy

Default check your carbs

Maren, I think if you check your carbs on your Jello pkg, you'll find that it's listed by "serving" not for the total pkg. My guess would be 8 x 4 servings, plus the cream carbs.

Please check me if I'm wrong.

Sharon,
I'm glad that you wrote about the Jell-o pkg.,it made me look & here is what it says:
For "total carbohydrates" - 8g. Now is that for the whole pkg. or is it per serving? As for the cream, I am from Michigan and shop at a store called Meijers & there heavy whipping cream states that it has 0g carbs. I know that other creams state that there is so much per tbsp. (I believe) which is 16/cup but this one from Meijers says 0g/cup.

Anyway if I am wrong, please set me right.

Thanks, I really appreciate your input!

Cocoa powder is milled cocoa beans, beans have carbs so cocoa powder has carbs, fillers not required

I added 1/2 tsp of peppermint to this and it was so nice. I thought I was going to have to give up chocolate mint, now I do not think so! Thanks for the simple yet very satisfying recipe.

I would use Cocoa before pudding. The pudding will automatically have more carbs because the thickener is basically starch.

And on the carb count for cream, I think it reads as 0 because they make the serving size so small that it is under one gram and then they can legally say it is 0. When you start using like a half a cup or more at a time is when the carbs begin to add up, in a small way of course, but some are very carb sensitive.
