Default World has discovered my fave bread :(

I have been paying C$2.69 / loaf for this mostly rye bread that has 5g of fiber per slice. Meanwhile other bakeries have been selling `high fiber` and `low carb` bread (with oh, 3g fiber) between C$3 and C$4 per loaf. And now suddenly they want C$4.99 for my rye bread. Bummer, the secret`s out

Why don't you tell the rest of us what brand this wonder bread is? Maybe we can benefit from it too!

It`s on the `Health Check` list as a bread mix. Perhaps the Heart and Stroke Foundation isn`t useless after all. I`ll have to keep an eye open in stores for the mix.

It`s awesome if you consider the ratio net carbs to fiber as an index of quality. There is probably 12g net to 5g fiber, or 2.4:1. Nonstarchy vegetables are in that range; the ratio for a lot of fruits is about three times that. And as grains go, rye has the lowest glycemic index; at most it is half that of wheat.

At another Heart & Stroke link:
"News Flash! Snow Cap Enterprises joins Health Check™ ::::
Health Check™ welcomes Snow Cap Enterprises to a growing list of licensees in the Bread category. Their Rocky Rye Natural Bread Mix will be distributed to various bakeries in B.C. and Alberta, as well as those bakeries who want the Health CheckTM label on the finished bread.

So is it a 17 carb bread with 5 fiber? Is that per slice? I agree with rye being low glycemic but those numbers still sound high. 2 slices of Natures Own multigrain would be less.
