Now, no need to jog or shower with 'Bible'diet!
New York | April 12, 2004 4:26:15 PM IST

The Atkins diet has a new contender- "Maker's Diet." Based on the Bible, it renounces jogging, showering and antiperspirants - and instructs followers to embrace the food and lifestyle of the ancient Israelites.
According to the New York Post, the book, "The Maker's Diet" ascended to No. 1 on the Barnes & Noble bestseller list and made it to the New York Times top 10.

Authored by Jordan Rubin, an alternative nutritionist and Messianic Jew, it prescribes a 40-day program of unprocessed, organic food. Followers must obey strict eating rules set forth in Leviticus and Deuteronomy. Unclean swine and shellfish are out, but carbs are definitely allowed.

The diet also involves a daily dose of soil that contains organisms "good for the gut" - manufactured by Rubin's Garden of Life company in Florida.

"I keep feeling better and better," he said. "I have more energy. I used to have a little acne - now I have none."

Rubin, 28, claims he came up with the diet after trying countless treatments for the debilitating Crohn's disease. He says most people "lose an average of 10 to 15 pounds in the first 40 days." But medical experts have been quick to puncture the almighty hype about the book.

According to Dr. Keith Ayoob, spokesman for the American Dietetic Association, "Weight loss of 10 to 15 pounds in 40 days? That's no miracle. You can easily lose 10 to 15 pounds in 40 days with a healthy, balanced diet and exercise." (ANI)

Well, perhaps people who follow this diet will "look" smaller...because eventually, without showering, no one will be able to get too close.

If he can get people to eat dirt, convinced that it's good for them, he's one heck of a salesman (or his customers are very, very gullible)!

Hmmm...I wonder...how does one "manufacture" dirt?

Sounds like Satan's diet to me:

Gen 3:14 - GOD told the serpent: "Because you've done this, you're cursed, cursed beyond all cattle and wild animals, cursed to slink on your belly and eat dirt all your life."

This reminds me of a joke I heard a while back:

It seems some scientists decided to challenge God, so they went to them and presented their challenge. "God," they said, "we don't need you anymore. We can heal sickness and do pretty much all the things that you do. We've even managed to create life. So, if you're up to the challenge, we'll make a man and you do the same and we'll compare the results to see whose is better"
"Very well," answered God. Then stooping down and scooping up a handful of dirt He said, "This is mine. Go make your own dirt.".

To make dirt you grind up rocks and add decaying organic matter and microbes, some insects and worms and their eggs. A little splenda if you have a sweet tooth.

Maybe the guy has a "revised" version of Deuteronomy, because in the "traditional" edition it is very meat/fish friendly:-)
Deuteronomy 12:20:
"When the LORD your God has enlarged your territory as he promised you, and you crave meat and say, "I would like some meat," then you may eat as much of it as you want. " (For details check Deu 20)

Similar way I failed to find any references to shower, jogging in the Good Old Book, but found plenty of references to washing/bathing, working (farm work is very strenous exercise). So I do not know how the "renouncing showering, jogging" Bible based.

About the dirt. I agree, this is a simple advertisement for the guy's dirt product... (Oh well, faith can move mountains....)

This is no miracle, just yet another example of what happens when you put aside the traditional overprocessed american diet. You loose weight and you feel better

Of course, eating dirt he might have gotten a dose of some parasite which seem to be the next promising treatment for IBD's.
