Default Houston, we have ketosis...

So the strip-tester-thingy finally registered ketones today - "moderate" amounts, apparently.

How does weight loss usually occur from this point? Soon? Should I expect to possibly have to stay in ketosis for a while before I see a difference on the scale?

Thanks!!

Hi and welcome.

Your question is probably the most frequently asked here, and the most poorly answered. There is no answer. Some people lose weight rapidly and continue to do so until they hit their goal, others will take weeks to lose a single pound. There are too many factors to try to predict. However, there is a very general average of 10% of the weight you need to lose on induction, and 5% per month after that.

One thing you might want to do is take some measurements. This is better than weighing yourself, since the scale doesn't tell you much about how your body is actually changing.

Good luck!

It depends on what you eat, portion size, exercise, water intake

In ketosis as of yesterday, up 3lbs on the scale this morning. Yikes! I think I may have eaten too much - I'll cut back a bit today.

Has anyone here had this diet NOT work for them?

Well, a couple of things - although admittedly I am new myself. Are you counting your carbs using fitday? Are you drinking all your water?

If the answer to both are yes, you could still be losing weight but holding water - some people's bodies do that. Then one day, suddenly - whoosh! - they lose a whole bunch.

I defnitely don't recommend cutting your calories unless they were up around 3000 or something.

The big things to watch are - count your carbs, eat enough calories so that your body doesn't shut your metabolism down, add exercise, drink your water, watch the frankenfoods (anything made in a lab!)

Also for some people, dairy and nuts can slow the weight loss down.

Hang in there and don't let that scale get you to quit!!

Miriam

Its so different for people. My wieght seem to melt off of me. I did'nt weigh myself, just kept measurments and tightening my belt! It seemed I just was not paying attention and boom...I hit 109lbs (I kid you not) That was four years ago. I burn fat instead of carbs now....go figure Hanging in since then at 114lbs. It took me six months....it took my husband a year (but he had a lo more weight to loose at over 200lbs. My heavy weight was only 145 lbs Once your in ketosis, your not going anywhere but down, trust me.

I in contrast am losing very slowly now (2-3 pounds a month) but there is a definite downward trend and no sign of my weight going up!
