I have been getting the shakes if i go more than a few hours of not eating. It just started last night, goes away when I eat. Any idea why? I am on day six of induction. Anyone else experiencing this?

How many grams of carbs are you eating each day? Make sure you are getting the entire 20 you are allowed. Sometimes when people don't get enough carbs they get shaky.

If eating helps, I'd say eat a little, as long as it is low carb. If this continue for more than a few days, you may be one of those rare people who can't get by on 20 grams of carbs a day and you could try adding a few more healthy carbs -- some more vegetables or even some berries. You have a lot to lose, so chances are that even on a slightly higher carb allowance you will continue to lose. I started out with a lot to lose (I still have a lot to lose, but not as much as when I started out) and I never went below about 25 or 30 grams of carbs a day, it just seemed to low to me. Now I usually eat between 30 and 40 grams of carbs (after subtracting fiber).

I had the shakes too. It was mostly on days where I would go for long periods without eating. I try not to do that anymore.

Just to emphasize what Liz mentioned, when I start this way of eating, I was about the same weight as you. I ate 100 carbs per day and still lost weight at a pretty good clip. So don't be afraid to increase the carbs if you need to in order to eliminate the shakiness. Once you get down to a lower weight, you can reduce them to get back into a better range. I actually started initially at 150 carbs, then after a couple of weeks dropped it to 100, then to 70. Now I'm in the 35-45 range most days.

I experience this too...I don't get hungry between meals, but I am in big trouble if I delay or skip a meal. I get the shakes, like you...and I'm irritable and generally feel weak and foggy. So I plan ahead to keep my schedule pretty regular (I take a brown bag if I need to).

Thank you for the responses. I will give eating more a shot. It is hard though because I am normally not very hungry. But if it will help I will try.

I got shaky at first, but I also got light-headed. I did not know what was happening. Iguess my body just got used to the carb deprivation, LOL. Kind of like quitting a drug. Anyway, good luck!!

Hi Shannon
I sometimes get light headed and get shakes if I don't eat regularly or if my carb count is really low. It also happens when I don't eat much at regular meals but exercise a lot. I don't know if it's a drop in blood sugar or what?..that's what it sounds like. Hope you're doing better!

Try to have some protein when you're feeling shaky. I find that sometimes if I'm not hungry, but I'm getting that shaky feeling anyway, a couple of ounces of sliced turkey or cheese with a large glass of water seems to work very well. Good luck to you!
