I guess it all depends on what phase of Atkins you are in.. 1 cup of watermelon has around 10 net carbs.

I am in OWL and after adding in berries and nuts, I added melon too. It does make a nice treat. If you haven't added any fruits back in yet, you will be surprised at how sweet they are and how a small amount can really satisfy you. I have about 1/4 cup with breakfast sometimes. Enjoy your summer and congrats on being so close to goal.

Watermelon is rather high on the glycemic index but I add some occassionally too just be careful! I buy those precut pieces so I don't have too much of it around. Good luck!

I would be careful, but maybe if it was a small amount mixed in with other berries you should be fine.

can anyone explain why Watermelon is so much higher on the glycemic index than any other melon ? And why it seems to have more sugar than Gala ?

It is just water isn't it ?

I will eat a small amount of water melon which probably is about 1/2 cup + 5 grams of carbs. Watermelon is also high glycemic and in Atkins for life it is recommended that it is eaten with a protein like macadamia nuts. This will prevent he glucose from getting to the bloodstream too quickly.

watermelon with whipped cream cheese is really good! It has this salty sweet strange flavor thing going on.
