Default Ulcer or Acid reflux?

After about a month of low carbing I have developed what feels like a very acidic or sour stomach. It has been causing me a great deal of discomfort and sometimes bloating. I happens generally about an hour after i eat a variety of different foods, no one food seems to trigger it. I have an appt. with my doctor but am curious if anyone else can give me some insight as to which I might be dealing with?

Engine I've had GERD and other problems for many years and LC has made things better, not worse. I'm glad to hear you have an appointment with your doc, because only s/he can make a correct diagnosis.

I will tell you a few things that set me off:
1. Chocolate, coffee, wine. Some people say cheese, but I have no problem with it.
2. Drinking too much too fast gives me nasty indigestion.
3. Lying down too soon after eating...you should let your stomach empty some before lying down. If you don't, the force of the full stomach can make reflux worse and increase your symptoms.
4. Raw fruit and some raw veggies. I'm not big on raw veggies, but stuff like celery do bother me. Fruit also is a big no-no for me, unless it's cooked.

It could be so many things. It could be an ulcer or reflux, it could be a gall bladder problems. If you've been following a LF diet for a long time prior to starting LC, it definitly could be GB. I've read a lot of reports of this. LF doesn't utilize the GB much, since it stores bile for fats. Because stones can form in the bile, especially when not used much, when some people increase their fat consumption, the GB starts working like it should and causes pain because it's now contracting hard against the stones. If it is this, it should be evaluated because of chances of a stone getting stuck in a duct.

See your doc and see what s/he has to say. My doc encouraged LC because of the benefit to the stomach, esophagus, etc. Good luck and keep us posted!

Thanks for the reply, my doctor put me on Protonix and took a blood sample to check for a bacteria in the stomach that contributes to ulcers, if I test positive for that I will go on a med to get rid of that bacteria. Right now I just wait for the test results and hope to keep the pain under control.
