Default Was I right to leave Ketosis

I've been on the low carb program for over 2 months and have been pleased with my progress . From the beginning I've been in ketosis, somtimes light colour sometime dark colour, even though I've the occasional cheat Mars bar, Cake and Alcohol at least two times a week. But I always seem to be in ketosis so last weekend I decided to jump ship and get out of ketosis which wasn't hard.

Does it mean that I've stopped losing weight untill I start turning the strips a darker colour. To be honest since the weekend I feel more determined and has had a lot conviction into my diet and I feel just getting out of it has given me a new lease. And its as if I'm after starting my weight loss programe again or would it be better to be in ketosis all the time??.

Any advice much appreciated

It is not necessary to go into or remain in ketosis in order to lose weight on a low carb diet. The amount of carbs that your body can tolerate and still lose weight is an individual factor, influenced by your metabolism, genetics and physical activity level.

Bottom line: assuming you have broken your initial carb cravings and habits, which is the primary purpose of induction, find the carb level that you can sustain and that allows you to lose weight and inches at a pace you can accept.

I don't think having Mars bar, cake and alcohol would have broken the addiction to sugar though.

I'm not sure how a mars bar/coke/alcohol twice a week could possibly keep you in ketosis - plus, the induction is meant to ensrue you break any sugar addictions and get on a healthier path. If you are serious about this way of life, you may want to consider giving up the junk food.

I don't what thread you read but I never said anything about being still in induction!!

the reason that I can eat those things is because I excersize alot and run 5 miles regularly and even now after 2 days I'm back in ketosis.

And todays St Patricks day so I'm off to the pub to drink about 6 pints of beer tonight and as long as my diet is within my Carb critital level I wil still be in ketosis.

I mainly have my mars bar before my runs as a form of energy which the atkins diet does not allow for and I find that I have burned it off by the next day

Even on OWL or the maintenance portion of this way of life, I do not personally beleive that mars bars, pop or alcohol were on the lists of good healthy food that should be eaten twice a week.

However, that said, it is obviously your choice what you choose to put into your body, and I wish you the best.

Anyone who thinks that they are going to go from one form of eating habits to another like a flick of a switch are sadly mistaken,IMO about this way of life takes adjusting and thats what I'm doing and as the weight is dropping off I'll continue.

Giving up smoking was a hard adjustment but I'm still off them and that led to my weight gain. Its not as if I've a fridge full of candy bars (Beer maybe but not choclate) two bars in 10 weeks won't kill me ar effect my progress

Ok, well I misunderstood, in your original post you said you had those things at least twice a week. What you are saying now is a bit different. In ten weeks, having two candy bars isn't ideal, but not quite the same as twice a week

Default good for you!!

As far as Im concerned, as long as you are loosing and changing your habits gradually, good for you! Though ketosis IS fat burning, so I guess you would want to stay in that whilst you still have weight to loose. Going off induction (or the main ketosis stage) doesn't mean stopping ketosis. And what people always tell me is... it isn't how dark your ketose stick is (it gets darker the more dehydrated you are) but whether it has changed colour (even if slightly, it is good!)

Cheerio
Alena

ps. the most important thing is that you are enjoying life and loosing happily and consistently. I have been like an angel these last weeks and because I didn't give myself a break I fell off the wagon in royal fashion!!!
