Report Rates Low-Carb Artery Cloggers
Updated: Tuesday, Mar. 2, 2004 - 10:40 AM

WASHINGTON, Mar 01, 2004 (United Press International via COMTEX) -- Ruby Tuesday's chicken salad beat a bunless Burger King Double Whopper with cheese as the top artery-clogging, low-carb entree, a U.S. report said.

The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine evaluated low-carb entrees from 10 restaurant chains based on fat content and calories.

They said some dishes recommended as healthy for low-carb diets still were high in fat and calories -- a combination that can lead to obesity and heart disease.

Going down the list were Chili's beef fajita Caesar salad, Don Pablo's Black Angus sirloin low-carb fajita and In-N-Out Burger's Double-Double burger protein-style.

Ranking sixth was Hardee's one-third pound low-carb Thickburger, followed by McDonald's Grilled Chicken Bacon Ranch Salad with extra chicken and Baja Fresh's Steak Picado.

Blimpie's buffalo chicken salad and Subway's Chicken Bacon Ranch Wrap were ninth and 10th, respectively.

Instead, PCRM recommended a low-fat diet rich in fruits, vegetables and complex carbohydrates.

They just don't read the research, do they?

Of course they did. No surprise there.

The PCRM has their own agenda. It's quite possible they read the research but disregard it.

At least they put PCRM at the top of the article so you could stop before you wasted any more time!

Good point Cindy. That's the first thing I noticed. I had to read it anyway. PCRM is usually good for a laugh.

Weren't these the same "responsible" physicians who reported Dr. Atkins died at weight 265, forgetting to mention that he weighed 195 the day he went into a coma?

it's amazing how the brain trust at PCRM manages to keep coming up with stupid PR stunts like this, still more amazing is that the media keeps falling for it and printing their nonsense...

Well, if they mean that vegetarians cannot become obese and low carbers can, then let them see this:

PCRM gives vegetarians a bad name. It's sad.

It's even sadder that they don't even try to veil their agenda anymore... responsible medicine my hiney.

Sounds like it may be a good list to have, if you are looking for tasty food.
