Default Hi! I'm starting the low carb diet! I HOPE IT WORKS!

Hi

I'm new to the forum. I've surfed the net to get info on low carb diets and found y'all. I think I've tried and failed many other things. Yet, I cannot lose weight. I weigh about 150 which is too much. I have counted calories and it does not seem as though I "overload" calorie count. I don't eat anything with that much fat. I'm unable to drive for an 18 month period and don't ask for rides nor am able to afford cabs when it's not absolutely necessary. That forces me to walk and ride bicycles. So I don't think it's calories. I don't think it's fat. I don't think it's inactivity.

But I HAVE discovered that MUCH of what I have in my kitchen is LOADED with CARBS. SO, that MIGHT be the "culprit". Since I've been making conscious effort to reduce carbs, I've noticed my digestion is a lot better. That could explain why DIETARY FIBER content in foods REDUCES the amount of total net carbs.

I have a few months in order to lose my big fat belly. I've never had children, so I shouldn't have that much trouble as long as I reduce the carbs. I KNOW whenever someone thinks of LOW CARBS, that often mean the Atkins Diet. I believe that Dr. Atkins is just ONE INDIVIDUAL, NOT GOD and he does not know everything. MAYBE people can tell me more about this. I still wonder why it's necessary to READ a WHOLE BIG BOOK in order to reduce carbs. ALL FOODS have nutritional information. SO that DIRECTS one into KNOWING what to eat and what not to.

Please contact me and tell me your stories and what you might recommend.

Thanks
Jennifer

You don't have to go out and Buy the book, just go to atkins.com and that will help you get started. I would however buy the carb counter book. It cost about $5.00 and is quite handy when starting out. I never knew that one little grape is worth one carb. That's huge when your counting carbs.
Good luck to you!

Thanks for writing. If I can get some Atkins info on the net for free, that would be cool. And ACCURATE CARB COUNTERS wouldn't hurt either. I guess they would be more reliable than trusting what's on food labels.

SOmething else about low carb diets. I've heard about it for a long time and kind of took it with a grain of salt, always believing that it's CALORIE INTAKE that makes all of (or most of) the difference. But, I ran into people at work who attest that the LOW CARB DIET WORKS. YOu can even stuff yourself with high calorie foods as long as you reduce the carbs. If THAT'S TRUE, I will try it.
