Question Feelin' Fruity

I've been on this WOL for the past 5 mos and have almost no fruit at all. I think I had 2 strawberries in October.. and nothing since!

So, now I'm thinking I might actually start to introduce fruit into my day-to-day. How did some of you fruit-eaters start to do this? I would really like to keep my carb intake on the fruit on the low side...

Thanks!

I'm on a strawberry kick right now. I take a few frozen strawberries and thaw them in the microwave until they're a little warm and mushy, then serve with some homemade whipped cream. Oh, yum!

As soon as I was allowed, I started enjoying a handful of raspberries/blueberries mixed with fromage frais (Asda - 3.6g per pot) and topped with squirty cream. Delicious. I keep intending to have it wrapped in a pancake but can never be bothered.

When adding a new food, don't do it every day to start. H ave a little every other day or so until your sure you react well, then up it slowly.

Start with low gi berries to start and make sure to have protien and fiber to help balance blood sugar.

Things I like are blueberries in salad, make a sweet omlette wher eyou put a touch of splenda in with the eggs, then fill with strawberries mixed with cream cheese.

Later add other fruits. On the Atkins web site they have an article about moving beyond berries. The Atkins for life book has easy to read tables that show what foods to eat often and which to eat in moderation.

Apples and walnuts are another good salad mix to add the crunch of missing crutons There are also peaches, plums, and oranges you can add in later.

I started with strawberries and then also added cantelope. Melons are pretty low on the GI.

I'm also on a strawberry kick. I make french toast crepes and roll the strawberries up inside ... yummy!

I have eaten fruit nearly every day since week 3. Mainly berries in my my morning yogurt/protein shake. I stick to raspberries and strawberries (frozen). I keep my quanitities to about 1/4 cup and have never had any problem.

More rarely, I will have an apple or some melon.

Sometimes I will also have some fresh berries with devon cream for dessert.

I added blueberries to my diet today. They were soooo good. I had a little bit with some cream.

I might bake some blueberry cream cheese muffins tomorrow.

When i was eating low-fat, I'd go thru whole bags of frozen strawberries in a sitting!!! I love frozen strawberries.

Think I'll go get some... and not have quite so many at a time.

I started by adding just a few strawberries with breakfast and watched how that affected my carbs & weight. No problems so I moved from berries to melons. For me, fruit works better in the mornings with some cheese and nuts or an omellete. Everyone is different so just go slowly and see how it affects you. I would suggest you add just one new thing in a given week to see how you react. Good luck and enjoy.
