Default Red Square Bakery - New West Quay

Well I finally made it down to the Quay in New West and they had a few offering there...I picked up a loaf of bread, ($5 loaf) generously sliced with 5 net carb per slice. Also had assortment of LC breakfast bars. I picked up one package just to have. Don't want to get into the habit of eating them but handy to have just in case I'm running late and can throw into my bag.

I saw an ad in the NewsLeader and Red Square (not in the quay but still in New West/Burnaby area) has a 1g carb per slice bread! Also, if you spend $20 or more you get a free loaf of bread (not sure tho if that means LC bread ) Jeanyyy said she'd had some of the 1-carb bread and it was really dark and heavy, but maybe give it a try yourself?? Free samples there, too, I hear.

I think that might have been the $7 loaf that they were sold out of? I really liked the bread I bought as its a real slice of bread. No preservatives so it has to be kept refrigerated or frozen.

Will check out the News Leader for the ad this week...

The "buy $20.00 and get a free loaf" did include the regular low carb bread (when I went in in November) but I don't think it includes the 1 gram per slice loaf. That is a bit more expensive.

The bread is all very good - the 1 gram stuff is small slices but just like a good Russian (black) rye bread. Try the low carb pizza dough as well - it keeps several days in the fridge and rises very well - I've heard some people use it to make a focaccia type bread for sandwhiches.

He makes a good "powerflax" cereal, too, that has (I think) TVP (that's what it looks and tastes like) in it to create a flake-like crunch with your ground flax. Very yummy with a little cream in the morning!

thanks Annie - I plan on making a return trip sometime soon. This morning my treat was a slice of flax toast with butter, cinnamon & splenda with my tea. I LOVED IT!

The bread freezes really well - and a slice every now again is a really nice treat.

Are you near a McGavins overload store? My brother buys me Carb sense loaves (5-Grms by Healthyway) for 1.99 there. Like you say they freeze well.

Kathy - the only one I know off the top of my head is in Langley but I think there is one in Burnaby (closer to home) somewhere. Will have a look and see if I can find!

Thanks for the tip!

Are you talking about McGavin's Breadbasket?? There's one on Scott Road and 80th in Surrey (on the Delta border) and I looked in there because I'd heard about them having LC bread, but I didn't find a single LC product in the whole store

McGavin's Bread Basket only has the Carb Sense bread occasionally, and they don't know before hand when they'll have it. However, the Save-on-Foods does carry it, and I have gotten it there for 2/$4.98 - good price. I have to say, I do enjoy this more than the 1 carb bread from Red Star. I found it really had no taste, kind of a funny texture.

I found a few loafs of the CC bread at the McGavin's in Richmond this weekend. However, their price was $2.99 - cheaper to buy at Costco and freeze the extra loaf. Still, 2.99 is better than what some places are charging for LC bread!

There is an Olafsens Bread store on Annacis Island ... and I heard they have the low carb bread there on occasion. Lots of bargains there ...( for the regular bread eaters in your family)

Oh just remembered that there is an Olafson outlet near the BCHydro office (close to Edmonds Skytrain) in Burnaby. I will pop in there sometime over next week and check out! Thanks for the tip!
