Default Dry painful lips...Fatigue...Searching for Non-synthetic Supplements

Hi

Has anyone experienced dry painful lips while doing low carb.
I am suspecting a deficiency somewhere. Maybe I'm low in Potassium.
I purchased a potassium/magnesium supplement yesterday.
I don't like ANY of the brands that Protein Power recommends in their book, the companies are too synthetic. Has anyone been using purer supplements that they feel good about? I prefer the more natural even food based when possible but I would love to here people's experiences.
My energy has been low, I have bouts of irritability and I have had tired eyes.

And any ideas regarding the painful dry lips? I have been drinking plenty of water and taking Rainbow Light's Complete Multiple. But I think I need to switch.

Oh, and one last thing I do have one mug usually less of coffee in the morning.
thanks

Hi MoonDoggy,

Sounds like you may have a deficiency of Essential Fatty Acids. I'd recommend a flax oil supplement, fish oil supplement or evening primrose oil. It also sounds as though you may be dehydrated (dry eyes, fatigue). I've read numerous times on this list that folks typically need to take 2 potassium in the morning, and 2 in the evening to counterbalance this WOE.

As for "natural", foodsourced supplements, why don't you look into liquid vitamins at your local health food store? I remember hearing very good things about a company called "Rainbow Light". They produced an entire line of supplements that were foodsourced. A web search should help you locate that product, if it is still being manufactured.

Best of luck to you,

Default Flax oil for me

Dry skin is a deficiency in one of the oils, most likely. I'm a flax-seed oil fan; hate the taste even the thought of fish products. I take 10 capsules a day and sometimes more in the winter; if I take less, my fingers crack badly.

Personally, I'm not big in the purity problem. I get mine at Sam's Club.

Another thing that could cause this -and it completely slipped my mind the first time I replied- is Vitamin A toxicity. In other words, too much vitamin A.

Check out what the Merck manual has to say about the signs and symptoms (scroll down the page a bit)

cheers,

I use virgin coconut oil on my lips. It feels great. Our furnace heat tends to dry mine out. They do not seem as dry as when I use to cut the fats.

plug a few of your daily menus into fitday and see how you are doing - esp. with riboflavin (B2).
Of course, it would be very hard not to get enough B2 on a high-meat (or LC) diet - but you never know - you might need more than average.

you might also consider a multi-vit if you seem borderline or low on a consistant basis.
