Central Texas woman cashes in on low-carb craze

(Pflugerville-AP) -- A Central Texas woman is cashing in on the Atkins diet craze that's sweeping the nation by baking and selling her own low-carb snacks.

Julee Dennis of Pflugerville was a long-time Atkins follower when she decided to make her own pork rinds with cinnamon and butter.

She started making them in a seven-by-ten foot room with one oven and one baking pan.

But business soon began booming.

Her company, called Gram's Gourmet, had almost $1 million in sales last year.

Central Market started selling the snacks this summer.

And Dennis plans to add 20 new items to the low-carb food market this year.

We bought a bag of these a couple weeks ago. They are pretty great.

Gram's Gourmet

Gram's Flax 'n Nut Crunchies are incredible. I haven't had any of her other products yet though. I did notice the partially hydrogenated oil in her rinds and probably will be skipping those.

I meant to post this under LC products, so if any moderator feels inclined to move this...

Thanks!
