Default What supplements do you take? Recommendations?

I'm especially curious about the Atkins supplements and Fat Flush supplements.

What do you take and what do you swear keeps your weight loss going? (Especially for those who lose 2+ pounds a week.)

I am either "metabolically challenged".... or "lymphatically challenged"..... or "liver challenged".......

I am also taking an SSRI... (please don't send me to the depression board -- they don't respond).

Thanks everyone!!

Hi Lammie22...
I take vitamin B comlex and Atkins Dieter's Advantage. I am also on an SSRI. I was on Zoloft when I 1st started this WOE but I needed to up my dosage again because it didn't seem to work as well. So my Dr. said I should try something new. He put me on Lexapro about 3 months ago and it seems as though my weight loss has slowed down considerably. I was wondering if it was the meds too. I posted about it on the "Tips and Stalls" board, but I got no response either.... so I know how you feel.
I have to be honest though, I am not very faithful when taking my suppliments. Maybe if I were, the weight would come off faster.

Thanks for responding DolphinBlue (pretty picture). Is there a specific reason you take the B complex?

I gave up all caffeine, all artificial sugar, that is what started my slooowwwww weight loss.

I've read that SSRI's can inhibit weight loss, but I haven't found the medical reason why.... I'm on Effexor and Trazadone (low doses).

I also read an article about cleaning out your lymph glands, which is supposed to help release fat and toxins....

searching for answers.....

You're not too far from goal... good going!!

My mother is big on vitamins and is also a nurse. She said that the B complex can increase your energy levels. I have found this to be somewhat true so far. Like I said, I need to be more consistant with my suppliments.
I have heard that you can actually gain a lot of weight using antidepressants, so I guess since we are losing (although very slowly) we should still be thankful. I suppose that's a good way to look at it.

I would never pay extra for the Atkins logo. Their supplements are rediculously expensive. I go for cheaper but good brands.

In the beginning of this WOE my kitchen table looked like a pharmacy, now I've calmed down and the only things I take regularly is cal/mag/potas to compensate for the electrolyte loss due to all this water we drink... I pop a multivitamin once in a while, maybe a Q10 too now and then.

If I ever experience cravings, I take Chromium (balances blood sugar). Other people rely on L-Glutamine for the same purpose.

As for boosting fat-burning, most renowned supplement is L-Carnitine. I took it for a while and it seemed to help. A bit expensive for me though.

Funnily enough, one of Atkins super expensive fat-burn-booster supplements contains caffeine. Well, I never quit my coffee, so I saved that money.

Thanks for responding. I don't do well with supplements that have caffeine in them. For some reason, it hits me harder than a regular cup of coffee would.

Lammie,
if you try the "search" function on top of this page and look up "supplements" you'll find tons of interesting threads on the matter. It's been thoroughly discussed in the past.

(Make sure to make your search in "advanced mode" and tick "search titles only". Otherwise you'll get tons of hits on peoples journals.)

You might also want to take a look at the "Low Carb Health & Technical Forums" (on the main page) where there is a subforum called "Nutrition & Supplements".

Cheers!

/gil

I have been taking many different ones for quite a while. I take a multivitamin, 1000 miligrams Vitamin C, 800 miligrams of Vitamin E, Selenium, and COQ10.

Whether or not they have any affect on my weight loss, I don't know as I have only been on Atkins for three weeks.
