Default ATKINS Best Recipes

I just bought the new ATKINS Best Recipes cookbook and love it. It not only has a lot of yummy recipes illustrated with full color photos, but it also has an introduction to low carb eating, an explanation of each phase of the Atkins diet plan with lists of acceptable foods plus a chart which shows the amount of protein, fat, fiber, calories, carbs and net carbs in common foods. It is a large soft cover cookbook with 160 pages. I can't wait to start using the recipes. One that looks interesting and can be eaten during induction is cheese straws which look like french fries.

I don't think they are the same. This one just came out after Christmas, copright 2004 and has just this week been started to be advertized on the Atkins website. The price is $10.50. They may have some of the same recipes but the categories are a little different.

Is the title "Atkins Best Recipes"? I just went to Amazon and Borders.com and could not find it on a search. Could you please confirm the title?
Thanks!

Yes that is the title. It just came out last week. I have only seen it in Wal-mart and grocery stores (in the magazine section). Also it is advertized on atkins.com.

Fluffybear, thanks. I just have some left over on a Borders card and thought it could use it.
I will look for it at Walmart. Thanks again.

Default The price is ridiculous in the stores

I saw one in Jewel Foodstores and it was priced at $26. I wanted to get it but I was like "too rich for my blood". I love to cook so I definitely need one. I can't remember if it's the "Atkins Best" or if it's the one the "Complete....." If you say it was $10, was that on the Atkins website or in the grocery stores? Maybe in Chicago, prices are different. Just like to know!

Okay--I have been searching the web trying to find out about this new cookbook and here is what I have found. There are actually TWO new cookbooks.

ATKINS Best Recipes-softback--$10.99

ATKINS The Complete Cookbook--Hardback-$24.99

From what I understand, the hardback cookbook is just an expanded version of the softback cookbook with an extra section on low carb entertaining. The covers of both books are very similar.

You can get the HARDBACK version(Atkins The Complete Cookbook) from atkins.com.

Hope this helps.

Fluffybear,
Thank you for taking the time to do this! I had found the hardcover one in several places but not the one you were talking about.
Thanks!

the softback one sounds much better value for money too! I will keep an eye out as I think they would be good to have as teaching aids on how to cope with this owe

In both cookbooks, do you find that a lot of the recipes call for Atkins brand products? Or do they call for real ingredients I can buy in the grocery store?

The muffins, pancakes, etc. call for Atkins Quick Quisine Bake Mix, but most of the other recipes do not call for anything special and if they do, I am sure it can be substituted. For instance, in the recipes that call for ready made store bought bread I am sure you could substitute another brand of low carb bread. Same with recipes calling for low carb noodles. But I would say the majority of recipes do not call for anything out of the ordinary. But the best thing is that all the recipes give the carb counts per serving, so you don't have to add up the carb counts for each individual ingredient.
